Aibu booking a holiday to Egypt? Booked a last min holiday to Egypt for myself, partner and 3 children 10,9,4. Good price, lovely hotel but partner seems to think egypt is safe for children. I don't know anyone who's been, booked hurghada. Has anyone been with young children that can share experiences so I can show my partner it's safe to travel to.

I love Hurghada. Have stayed in El Gouna a couple of times with young DC. Beautiful sea, marina and ‘city centre’

We went to Hurghada a couple of years ago. Inside the hotel was lovely, beautiful, staff couldn't do more for you. We went out once, felt very unsafe, men following us in cars and beeping. The shopping centre was ok but we never went out again. Also we got very sick- the resort was so beautiful but I was sick for months after so would never go back to Egypt again.

You’ll be fine in your hotel complex but not safe to go outside of it or it wasn’t when I went a few years ago to hurghada.

As pp said, the staff in the complex were lovely, the hotel lovely but outside you just get harrassed . Such a shame. We did a trip to Luxor that was amazing

I did Sharm not Hurghada but I would never go back. I went out with ds for 2 hours and have never felt so unsafe in my life. The hotel was nice but the food wasn't and I was ill. The airport was sinister. You have to tip everyone. There are no or few female hotel staff. If you are happy to stay in the hotel only then maybe but I think depending on when you go, there are much nicer places.

Hurghada wasn’t recommended last time I looked because of the risk of terrorism - have you checked the FCO guidance? It would probably be fine, but you should check.

We went to Egypt in Nov 2017 - Cairo, Aswan, Abu Simbel and Luxor. It was phenomenal. Lovely people, phenomenal sights, had the famous sites virtually to ourselves- terrific.

But I would avoid any part of the country that the FCO advise against.

Not been but 10 years ago spent 3 months in cairo, luxor, aswan etc...fab trip....you will need to buy Streptoquin when you arrive....its cheap...dont get ripped off so pay local price in pharmacy....a few pounds max...its the only thing that zaps the stomach issues....uk stuff dont work at all....be prepared....gassy feeling in stomach and then everything explodes with very little warning...!!

Hurghada is fine, safe, and not advised against on FCO site. We've been going for years, where we stay we can walk to local shopping centre and have never felt unsafe, however most excursions are guided and you are picked up from the hotel entrance.

You can get a taxi to the marina and ppl say it's safe but I've never been there as we tend to go in winter for a bit of sun, to relax and maybe do a boat trip.
Hotels are guarded, but not by big scary men holding machine guns, there are barriers at the entrances with staff in a kiosk, mainly just to ensure only guests enter, not to keep you locked away inside.

I can highly recommend Falcon tours for any excursions, and if your hotel isn't on the beach most of them run a (free) shuttle bus to the beach.

Have a wonderful time

You will be fine in the hotel... they will have armed security and will check out taxis for bombs etc when they drive up to the hotel.... stick to bottled water.....be careful what you eat and take earplugs for children's ears in the pool....mine( and other children) caught ear infections from the pools even though they looked spotless.... pick a big hotel with a water pool and you will be happy onsite all week

Loved Egypt. Stayed in Sharm...no issues with going outside hotel, but felt very unsafe in Cairo even though we were on a guided tour. Food is a bit hit and miss but no stomach issues from it

We all got very sick on a holiday in Egypt. It was nasty and made us ill for weeks. I’d never go back again personally.

We went to Hurghada a few years back. Loved it. Didn’t go out much Bcos DH is a lazy git but the few times we did, I didn’t feel unsafe at all.
Guards at entrance to hotel didn’t feel menacing. We went to Cairo, shopping centre, and markets. The driver for Cairo was a pervy shite though. DS got sick but he drank the pool water (has autism) so really, that was to be expected! The rest of us were fine. I recommend a resort if you’re worried. Ours had plenty to do. Would go back.
