Spaghetti Plumbing

Hi

This is my under sink plumbing. Dishwasher to the left, washing machine to the right and a twin sink. I will admit its going to be 'busy' under there but does it need to be this busy, bulky and untidy? Hardly any room to put cleaning stuff.

What's your under sink like? Post pictures please :)

YABU - Its to be expected
YANBU - Plumber was having a bad day, could be neater.

Ours was similar to this, until we had a leak that ruined the cabinet. New plumber put it back much neater (and added a few of his own connectors etc).

Kotatsu · 25/10/2021 13:11

Don't love the connectors right next to the socket if I'm honest, but that's clearly the sign of an under-sink that's just had bits added as you go, rather than planned out in advance, You could certainly neaten it up if you wanted.

00Seven · 25/10/2021 13:19

@Kotatsu actually this is new build and was done in one go. Yes really. That's why I'm asking. When I asked the plumber who did it (still on site at the time, not now) he just shrugged and walked off.

@dinosaurblues I'm considering getting a plumber in to have a look but they are so expensive.

Doesn't need a plumber. Any handyman/DIYer could sort that easily.

MiloAndEddie · 25/10/2021 13:29

What’s the clear-ish pipe for?

If it’s a new build (and it’s still new!) don’t get anyone else in to mess with it, if they cock it up it’ll affect your warranty with the builder and they won’t touch it after that

dinosaurblues · 25/10/2021 13:32

Ours was similar and this is it now.

Very neat @dinosaurblues. So ours could be neater.

@MiloAndEddie I think the clear pipes are the water feeds to the washing machine. They disappear down a hole so cant fully check. Builders wont do anything to amend current plumbing as they say its adequate.

@billyt I'm ok with some DIY but plumbing is beyond me.

Our white plumbing pipes also look grubby and battered as if he's cobbled spare bits from his van floor together.

In the scheme of things I realise its not a major problem, but would have appreciated a neater tidier job to maximise storage which we don't have a lot of in the kitchen.

We got the shelf added too, but we had to take the unit out - hence the cutaway at the back - as it was damaged.

Our washing machine is in a separate utility bit.

00Seven · 25/10/2021 13:58

@dinosaurblues having your washer sited elsewhere will reduce the number of pipes. The bulk of your plumbing is sited further left and the addition of a shelf will have doubled your available storage space. Looks like you've made the most of the space under your sink. looks great as far as under sinks go lol.

I’m really surprised by the sockets in the cupboard too. I’d be very surprised if that’s ok, usually you have an unswitched socket in the back of a the appliance space and then an isolator switch above the worktop. Who is the builder?

Sockets in cupboards in perfectly normal.
LesLavandes · 25/10/2021 16:12

I don't think you are allowed plug sockets in that area

MiloAndEddie · 25/10/2021 16:32

@Watchingyou2sleezes switched sockets under a sink are not usual for any house builder I know (and I know a few Wink)

Whoopdy doo. I own electrical contracting companies and we've fitted 1000s.
I also develop and have fitted on many of those.
You find a regulation to say it's not allowed in BS7671.
Remember that plumbing if fitted correctly is not supposed to leak. so water is not an environmental consideration for sockets/other outlets in under sink cupboards.

MiloAndEddie · 25/10/2021 17:40

@Watchingyou2sleezes wow unnecessarily catty for a post about electric sockets.

I will bow out now to your clearly superior knowledge

00Seven,

If you are ok with some DIY then you can saw through a plastic pipe and glue two bit of plastic together. Grin

The drain pipes that you see are not carrying water under great pressure, only the water draining out of the sink or from your appliances.

And yes, the pipes probably have been sliding around in the back of his van. Looks like he just used what he had as you're not paying him, the main contractor is. Even a t-piece to join the two top connectors together would remove one down pipe.

The mess on the right looks like the appliance in-line valve. He could have actually given a toss and done a proper job.

And as said upthread, nothing at all wrong with having socket outlets in cupboards.
