can't you just get a warm glow from knowing that you're making that little boy's evening's so much more fun than if he were stuck at home with 4 dreary grown-ups?

It would get on my bits too tbh but short of saying he can't come round or confronting the neighbours about why exactly their house is sacred child-free space, all you can do is feel good about all the joy your forebearance is bringing into that little boy's life.

have you got room for any more ?

paulaplumpbottom · 10/12/2007 20:57

If you were to send DS over there what would happen?

nametaken · 10/12/2007 20:57

what beewisemen said

LyraSilvertinsel · 10/12/2007 21:00

Every night is a bit much, especially as he's never invited back to theirs. Not sure how you should handle it though.

DaphneHarvey · 10/12/2007 21:01

YANBU. I would be very irritated. Obviously not such a nice person as you and your fellow posters!

DP had this with the boy next door. His folks didn't want any mess/noise in their house/garden, so, come rain or shine, next-door-boy would be hammering and hollering at the door, ready to play. I think DP's parents just started saying "no, not tonight/today".
now, as this boy's parents were a bit fuddy-duddy, DP hardly went round, but you might find that these people suddenly twig that it's a bit one-sided and have your boy over occasionally.

TheChickenLady · 10/12/2007 23:47

nzshar tell me it isn't so.

We're moving to New Zealand in a few weeks.

I like to make appointments several days in advance.

I find it odd that people can be so selfish - take take take

bozza · 10/12/2007 23:50

Some people are so thick-skinned. Surely they must realise that they are taking advantage of you.

MrsJohnCuSackFullOfPresents · 11/12/2007 06:28

hey Chicken Lady
where in NZ are you moving to

and Harman - yes I'd be a bit miffed too

nzshar · 11/12/2007 08:33

TheChickenLady you will find that the idea of playdates between neighbours is thought a bit weird. Bit different if the children live further afield as obviously pick ups and drop offs need to be organised. Though the fact that it is summer over there at the moment and the outdoor culture is more prevelent(sp?) will mean that will be in the garden anyhow Hope your move goes well and you enjoy NZ

TheChickenLady · 11/12/2007 09:07

We're moving to Whangarei. I honestly cannot remember the last time anyone 'dropped by' so reckon it'll be a culture shock... but a nice one, especially as my neighbour of 4 years STILL doesn't speak to me in the lift!

TheChickenLady · 11/12/2007 09:11

Mrs JC just had a nose on your profile - lovely photos! Your litle ones are adorable.

MrsJohnCuSackFullOfPresents · 11/12/2007 19:15

thanks! and good luck for the move
