I'm having a very hard time getting this into my DD from the syringe or spoon, but she needs it.

Can I mix it into her milk?

Not necessarily together.

I have before and it's worked, not sure if hard to monitor the dose though - will they drink it all?

I've found yoghurts better as they are already flavored

TakeMe2Insanity · 21/10/2021 18:52

The more liquid you put it in the harder it is to tell if they’ve had a full dose and then potentially they might miss out. But yes we have done it when dc was younger but a very small amount of juice or something so you can easily see they’ve had the full dose.

fussytodd · 21/10/2021 18:53

Yeah she loves her bottle before bed and demolishes it..

Try putting the medication into the teet of the bottle and letting her suck on it as normal. By the time mine had noticed it wasn't milk they had had it all!

Imnotamagician · 21/10/2021 18:55

I always have done as my dd will not take it off a spoon/syringe. I have to disguise it in squash now as she can now taste it in the milk and refuses to drink it. It does dilute it a bit - but it still worked. Hope your dd gets better soon.

zingerdoo · 21/10/2021 18:55

Hi, yes you can definitely do that. My daughter was the same- wouldn't have any medicine at all directly so have to put it in her milk (and now she's a bit older juice). It was the best and most reliable way we found to give her medicine xx

StripeyBadger · 21/10/2021 18:55

Yes but if the bottle isn’t finished, or is vomited, you need to assume the full dose has been given and wait the relevant amount of time before giving anymore.

toastmilkraisins · 21/10/2021 18:56

I have but you need to be sure they’ll drink it all and count if as a full dose even if they don’t finish the bottle.

You can get little dummy medicine dispensers, worth a try.
I wouldn't mix with juice or milk, I just pop syringe far back at side of the cheek and give a little at a time until it's all gone. After a while they realise it helps them feel better and don't refuse it anymore.

fussytodd · 21/10/2021 20:46

Thanks everyone. She screams bloody murder when I try to get near her with the syringe or spoon.

I did manage to get some Calpol in her earlier, she does need to learn.

She's had a weird cold on and off since last week. It started on Tuesday last week with a snotty nose and she had that for a couple of days. Then on Saturday she woke up with croup. She got steroids for that straight away. Then she seemed fine and had a fever when she woke on Monday, which then went away. And then today she started having a fever again at around 4 pm.

Difficult question to answer, but I wonder if this fever is new or part of the 'old' virus..

I haven't mixed before. But I would if its the only way your DD will have it.

Snorkello · 21/10/2021 20:53

Get her checked again if you’re worried.

But yes, I have had to add calpol to milk. Works well in small amounts of milk to make sure they take it all.

Finally got ds taking a syringe at 16 mth. We cheer and clap afterwards and he seems to like that!

Monstertrucks · 21/10/2021 20:54

My youngest was the same... Lots of Peppa pig - when she was poorly and doctor brown bear gave her medicine and she got better.
Every single time he takes his calpol/nurofen he gets a sweetie/chocolate button - doesn't yet with with antibiotics but we live in hope...
I hope your lo is better soon

HeeHawSeeSaw · 21/10/2021 21:00

Yes, I used to do this, it was the only way I could get my dc to have calpol. Hope your dd feels better soon Flowers

Skyla2005 · 21/10/2021 21:05

Yes and yoghurt too
