Ghost hunts

Have you ever been on an organised ghost hunt and see any unusual activity? Contemplating going on one but not sure if I’m brave enough!

AS there's no evidence they exist, I'd imagine it would be a bit disappointing.

Iooselipssinkships · 21/10/2021 11:38

Me and my partner went on one. It was just for the 'experience' and something to do while I was pregnant. Sod all happened like we expected. We enjoyed the refreshments though.

Scbchl · 21/10/2021 11:41

Me and my friend went. It was a sleepover in a scout camp place. Absolutely nothing happened at all. Id go again because iv never laughed as much in my life. We ended up just driving home about 4am as it was so cold and uncomfortable.

jiskoot · 21/10/2021 11:41

I've been on a couple, not much happened in either tbh, nothing that I believed anyway. Was quite spooky at moments I will say, we were sitting in small groups in each room in the pitch black. Did get a weird feeling in some rooms but nothing else. Did get to meet Ciaran O'Keefe on one though!

Worth doing if you like that sort of thing, I just pinned myself in the corner for protection Grin. Were both good fun if nothing else.

vajingleberry · 21/10/2021 11:44

Hunting for something that doesn't even exist?

What's bravery got to do with it?

Bet you have to pay money to do it too.

Just dim the lights and set fire to a couple of ten pound notes.

Bonkers.

wtfisthatspiderdoing · 21/10/2021 12:08

YABU.

suspiria777 · 21/10/2021 12:56

If i were a ghost the last thing i'd do is respond to a group of strangers "hunting" me, either as a way to make money (the organisers) or as a way to waste it (the customers).

The premise is just absurd.

Picklypickles · 21/10/2021 13:03

No, it looks stupid. A bunch of fools stumbling about in the dark jumping at their own shadows and shrieking "did you hear that?!" every two minutes. No, I did not hear a spooky ghost or anything besides you twits whisper-shouting!

Nitgel · 21/10/2021 13:04

I'm tempted if it's in an interesting location

HerRoyalWitchyness · 21/10/2021 13:06

I'd do it just for a laugh. I reckon it could be fun depending on where you go.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 21/10/2021 13:07

If I actually wanted to hunt ghosts I wouldn’t go on an organised trip where there is a motive for the organisers to fake phenomena to justify the price.

Sn0tnose · 21/10/2021 13:20

I did, many years ago, in Dover castle. It wasn’t particularly expensive. They had a ‘psychic investigator’ and a few things set up, like cold drafts and chairs moving. It was a fun way to spend an evening, it included a bit of history (actual, real history about the castle, not how a princess fell to her death from a tower after being jilted etc) and it was really nice to see the place after dark and with nobody else around.

No chance I’d sit on a damp log in the woods to do it though.

Clandestin · 21/10/2021 13:31

Just burn a fifty while sitting in the dark in a cold draught?

Somethingsnappy · 21/10/2021 14:02

Where are you tempted to do one?

Mrspoopoohead · 21/10/2021 14:29

I just thought it may be a bit of fun obviously post quite light hearted! I have seen the odd thing which I can’t explain but appreciate there is a commercial aspect to organised group trips.

ive been on a couple of location ones Nottingham was more of a good night with friends as i felt a lot of it was set up one or two unexplained things, but Beaumaris jail was a totally different ball game lots of activity like footsteps and heard a key turning in a lock and i knocked on a large glass panel and someone knocked back, felt someone small following me all night saw a dog go round a corner who couldn't possibly have been there, in the nursery i pictured someone who most people don't pick up, and before we left when the sun came up i went to the loo and the atmosphere was different it was like the jail had gone to sleep no electric in the air, went with an open mind and my kids say i was a witch in a previous life so wether you believe or not it was a good night and for me money well spent

Bumblenums1234 · 21/10/2021 15:24

I went on one once, it was hands down, the funniest night of my entire life. Well reccomended!

TooBigForMyBoots · 21/10/2021 15:30

stonebrambleboy · 21/10/2021 15:49

Spent a night at Chingle Hall once.....creepy.

Stargazingharbor · 21/10/2021 16:00

Dont need a ghost hunt... I live it everyday in my house lol... my house is extremely haunted. Lol 👻

SirenSays · 21/10/2021 16:33

I have friends that go regularly to loads of different ones. They aren't even the biggest believers I don't think, they just like spooky stories. They have good time and go to the pub afterwards. I've been promising to join them for ages as they always seem to have such a laugh. There are loads of these events at this time of year.

NCkitchen · 21/10/2021 16:41

I've done 3 or 4 of these . Nothing ever happens in terms of seeing or hearing "ghosts" but they are good fun.

It's still intense waiting, listening, using the devices, séances, ouji boards etc dark cold... all adds to the drama

Best bit is usually people in the group faking it. That's always a laugh 😀

NCkitchen · 21/10/2021 16:47

We did a couple with this company. We do it for a laugh though. Would love to see a ghost (im kinda sceptic) but never have

Did the Shrewsbury prison one

And Orphanage in Liverpool

Another prison one, cant remember where

And Gainsborough old hall

Laiste · 21/10/2021 16:47

I went on a 'night walk' around Hampton Court a few years ago. 9 or 10 of us. It was just to experience the wonderful atmosphere of those old old halls and corridors by candle light.

At one point i hung back from the group to stand and be alone in the dark and the quiet for a few moments. I heard a woman's full on laughter coming from a room right next to where i was standing, but it also sounded echo'y and miles away iyswim? The door was open and the room was in complete darkness. I didn't feel any fear or creepyness. It was pleasant actually :)

Fishdoggy · 04/02/2022 18:29

Did a couple with a shop near Wolverhampton but we watched them start the table tipping and it was only the couple taking the money that "saw" anything. Absolute fakes. On the Ouija board they had "monks" from 1700 + in the area when monasteries were devolved in 1510 (I think). And a character called Scarlett Johnson who was supposed to be a rich Welsh heiress burnt as a witch well after it wasn't legal to do it. Didn't like to point out "Scarlett" as a girl's name was coined by M Mitchell in Gone with the Wind in 1936! I've experienced the paranormal but not with those clowns. If it involves parting with money it's 99%imy to be fraud.
