Copper IUD question

NHS guidelines state a copper coil can be fitted at any time of your cycle as long as you are not pregnant. I.e on your period is fine!

The GP just cancelled my appointment for the 3rd time. I have been waiting 3 months to come off of my pill and fed up with it. I have exhausted all other options and now they called to cancel tomorrow and rebooted for 1 month later. Receptionist said if you get your period then we need to reschedule. She didn't accept what I said about the NHS guidelines and I said I don't know when my period is as I'm getting up to 3 a month at the moment. And varies each time. Sometimes there's 2 weeks between sometimes a few days before it starts again. Hence why I want to come off of it. I know condoms are an option but I fall pregnant very easily and I worry. It's starting to have an effect on our marriage as my mood is awful due to the pill and constantly being on my period. Dh has been great and doesn't complain, and so he shouldn't. But I'm really unhappy. I called the local GUM clinic and they said my local one has stopped this service due to covid but I can go to the other one which is 1 hour drive away. I can't do this. Aibu to think that this really isn't fair to women's health and using covid as an excuse

Hi OP.

If possible can you go through a sexual health/Gum clinic rather than your GP? I had a copper coil fitted in August and the advice that it can be fitted at any time during your cycle is correct.
On my telephone consultation, they booked me in and I said I would be on my period (very regular) and the nurse actually said it was better to be fitted during your period as your cervix is already open a little bit, and your uterus is cramping so insertion is easier. And she used to fit them herself at the coil clinic so expert knowledge.

When I went to the clinic to have it fitted, the doctor confirmed what the nurse had said and it was quick and very easy and no pain other than usual period cramps.

If not, I would explain politely to the receptionist that you would like to discuss with the GP/Nurse that actually runs the coil fitting clinic and speak to them.

It’s unreasonable for them not to offer flexibility if you’re suffering from irregular periods - which your GP should be aware of.

Our local GUM clinic aren't doing it ' because of covid' Hmm our next closest one is 1 hours drive away which isn't possible for me unfortunately. I don't understand why they make it so difficult
