Should pregnant women be wearing masks still?

Around 8 months pregnant here, should I be wearing a mask at all in your opinion? I’d genuinely like to know what your think, especially if you aren’t wearing a mask.

(I’m wearing a mask on the train into London, then the tube and not all the time at work as I’m able to stay upstairs away from clients)

I think everyone should be wearing masks.

BunnytheFriendlyDragon · 21/10/2021 08:20

It's up to you. Pregnant women are vulnerable but nothing sure how much a mask protects you when others are t.

KatherineofGaunt · 21/10/2021 08:20

I'm not pregnant and I wear a mask in shops or on public transport. Makes sense to do so, I wish more people would.

User7312019 · 21/10/2021 08:20

When I was heavily pregnant I stopped, it was just hard enough anyway trying to catch my breath.

ItsSnowJokes · 21/10/2021 08:21

I'm not pregnant and I wear a mask when I am in public places such as work, shops etc... still.

Its personal choice but if I was pregnant I would do all I could to keep myself and others around me safe.

Luckytattie · 21/10/2021 08:22

I am 8 month pregnant and I'm wearing masks, yes, definitely.
In in Scotland so we have to anyway but I would even if we didn't have to.

Wondering1000 · 21/10/2021 08:22

I wouldn't. But I don't wear a mask anyway, so hardly likely to start when pregnant...

ChickenSchnitzel · 21/10/2021 08:24

I think everyone should be wearing masks in public. Especially as cases are rising so quickly now. Do what you feel is best for you,

I'm in Scotland where it is still mandatory and compliance is pretty high.

Raggeo · 21/10/2021 08:24

I recently gave birth and wore a mask in public throughout my pregnancy... Public transport, shopping centres, supermarkets, in and out of restaurants, toddler groups and classes for my older son. Didn't wear mask if visiting friends or family or if I had people visiting me. I was used to wearing the mask so didn't have a problem continuing to wear it for a bit longer.

CountingMyChickens21 · 21/10/2021 08:25

I think in certain circumstances. I wore one throughout most of my pregnancy due to covid. But I really struggled during the hot weather, I complied and wore one but I found it difficult to breathe, so only went out when I absolutely had to.

ThanksItHasPockets · 21/10/2021 08:25

Yes, but I think everyone should be wearing a mask in crowded situations. I'm still wearing one in shops and the secondary school where I work has reintroduced them in communal areas due to local high numbers.

Even more important, however, is that you are vaccinated.

Insomniacexpress · 21/10/2021 08:25

Double jabbed, pregnant and still wearing a mask on the London commute. Not in the office. Nobody is allowed in our office that isn’t double jabbed and we have quite a strict testing policy.

EileenGC · 21/10/2021 08:25

I think everyone should, and a proper medical grade one which protects both the wearer and those around them. A cloth over your face when 50% of those around you aren’t even bothering, won’t do much of a difference.

KingsleyShacklebolt · 21/10/2021 08:26

Up to you. Make your own decisions, if you feel you'd be happier wearing a mask, then wear a mask. Don't wait for MN or the government to tell you what to do.

But whatever decision you make for YOU, that doesn't give you the right to tell other pregnant women that they should or should not be wearing a mask too.

I've started to see compliance waning a bit in shops. Still a high number wearing them though. Ds still mask wearing in school too; don't see that changing before Christmas
lawofdistraction · 21/10/2021 08:27

Yes. As should everybody.

Aqua55 · 21/10/2021 08:29

Masks have never been about protecting yourself from covid. You wear one to protect others.

EdgeOfTheSky · 21/10/2021 08:29

Wearing a mask protects other people from you.

I don’t know why they stopped the requirement to wear a mask here. It is such a simple and effective measure and helps stop the spread of other airborne / droplet infection illnesses , colds, flu, Noro virus….

SheWoreYellow · 21/10/2021 08:30

Wearing one tends to signal to others that you’re being more careful, so people give you more space. I’d wear one in your situation.

EileenGC · 21/10/2021 08:33

@Aqua55

Masks have never been about protecting yourself from covid. You wear one to protect others.
Some masks are also effective in protecting the wearer. Some countries have banned all other types - that protect others only - and the difference is obvious.
Sn0tnose · 21/10/2021 08:33

I think everyone should be wearing them. I do, on days when lungs aren’t playing up. When they are and I’m finding it hard to catch my breath, I have a Perspex face shield. Absolutely look ridiculous and absolutely do not care.

Science is not my strong point, but I understood from the guidance that came out that a mask is not going to protect you from a virus unless it’s a proper medical grade one. The point is to wear one to slow down droplets etc on your breath to protect other people. And other people wear their masks to do the same and protect you.

Sn0tnose · 21/10/2021 08:34

Cross posted with lots of others saying the same thing.

Everydayimhuffling · 21/10/2021 08:34

Yes. It signals to people that you are being careful and pregnant people are currently the most vulnerable/most hospitalised.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 21/10/2021 08:35

Up to you, I had low blood pressure in the summer of 2020 and couldn’t wear one without feeling faint.
They don’t really protect you but others.

DressedUpAtAnIvy · 21/10/2021 08:37

Depends on the mask. Don’t bother if it isn’t one that protects you as well as others.
