To ask how you would spend a salary of £300k?

In a similar vein to “what would you do if you won the lottery” … how would you spend an ongoing salary of £300k per year?

That’s £25k per month before tax.
£14,180 per month after tax.

Horses. Horses. More horses
That's the money taken care of Grin

I would have a cleaner and someone to make me delicious health meals, a personal trainer...

Chihuahuacat · 20/10/2021 19:50

I guess I’m working full time for this salary?

So a lovely house, cleaner twice a week, amazing holidays with my annual leave, a personal trainer, healthy meals prepped, weekly blow dry, membership to a spa / health club, a stitch fix subscription or similar.

I’d donate lots to charity and help my parents out as well.

EileenGC · 20/10/2021 19:51

Nice house as I could afford a decent mortgage/pay high rent.

A chef or some cooked meal service because I loathe cooking. I’d continue cleaning myself.

I’d support younger siblings through uni so they can have the same opportunities I did (thanks Brexit for putting and end to that!)

I wouldn’t change much spending habits much, but the rest would go into savings I could dip into when flying or staying at hotels, to upgrade to business class and nice suites!

craftyminer · 20/10/2021 19:52

I could think of LOADS of things to buy initially. All new clothes, fancy makeup, do my food shopping in M&S (or somewhere posher that I'm cute you unaware of), a new car. Al of obvious things. But i think month after month I'd struggle to think of what to do with that much money. Presumably I'd have a big house and a big mortgage.

SpangoDweller · 20/10/2021 19:53

My boss earns this and he recently bought a (small) castle and a boat, so that seems as good a start as anything.

I’d have a lot of nice holidays - every other weekend on a city break somewhere and a longer break every other month. Cleaner, gardener and housekeeper/PA to do some of my life admin and evening meals during the week. A selection of cars for different needs.

Blankspace4 · 20/10/2021 19:53

You’d likely have so much responsibility for that salary that you’d either not have time to spend it, or spend a shit load just keeping your house functioning - cleaning, nannies, PA etc

Puffykins · 20/10/2021 19:55

Private education for both my children. And I'd put more money into my pension every month. And get a cleaner.... oh, and replace ALL my sash windows with double glazed wooden sash windows instead of just the ones that are desperately in need of replacing. I'd take boxes at the ROH. And buy a studio flat in London so that I wouldn't get home SO late after going to the theatre/ ballet.

ssd · 20/10/2021 19:55

Can you imagine this amount if moneyEnvy

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 20/10/2021 19:55

It’s crazy to think that some footballers make 300k a week!

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 20/10/2021 19:55

I'd put as much into savings and pensions as possible so I could retire early and live well during that retirement.

ssd · 20/10/2021 19:56

That green face was envy, not sick Grin

Slayduggee · 20/10/2021 19:57

Nanny to look after DC. Brand new car. Top of the range camper van for UK weekends away. Foreign holidays. Save loads of cash then completely pay off mortgage in 3 years when my fixed rate ends. Healthy meals deliver to my door. Cleaner 2/3 times a week. Gardener fortnightly. Personal trainer.

YoungGiftedPlump · 20/10/2021 19:57

Pension(aiming to retire at 57)
Mortgage- gas bill is £400 a month, holidays

Don't have a cleaner or housekeeper, personal trainer. Not sure I could afford them.

Eat out a bit, belong to a spa.

Children were partly private educated. Cant afford a boat or a castle.

Mainly holidays.

PooWillyNameChange · 20/10/2021 19:57

The top tier in my organisation earn about this. Most of them live fairly normal lives from what I can see but have nice houses in good areas.

Our take home is about 2/3 of that (that's 2 of us full time and some passive income. Neither of us anywhere near 300k salary or ever will be) and I'd just invest the extra third towards retirement, boring I know!

Pigeontown · 20/10/2021 19:58

Big job, nice house and car, kids in good schools, cleaner/housekeeping, meals out, evening childcare on tap, lots of luxury holidays. Holiday home, rental investment property. Clothes from high end made to last places. Pensions and investments. Expensive haircuts/beauty treatments. Personal trainer and high end gym.
In big cities there are plenty of 2 professionals households with income close to this.

naughtyfurballs · 20/10/2021 19:59

Friends who did have that sort of income have a very nice house, and also a housekeeper/manager, as well as a cleaner. The housekeeper did other housework (e.g. changing the beds, cooking/meal prep) but also arranged maintenance (e.g. plumber), dealt with deliveries (e.g. food shopping) etc. - the friend was working full time, and really appreciated handing over the mental load for the household.

Big houses mean big bills, so I think a fair amount of money went there.

Their (many) children were also privately educated.

TwinklyBranch · 20/10/2021 19:59

I would hand in my notice, recruit a hot single man to replace me, marry him and live a life of luxury. WinkGrin Cos what's the point in being that rich if you still have to work?!

stillonthattightrope · 20/10/2021 20:00

I'd buy a house. Not a massive one but a nice one with a lovely garden for my dogs and socialising.

I'd make our lives easier by paying for:
Cleaning
Gardening
Laundry
DIY

I'd financially support my sibling who is barely surviving on UC.

We'd have some nice holidays.

I'd make monthly charity donations.

mountbattenbergcake · 20/10/2021 20:01

My boss earns more than that but I'm so lazy I can't even be bothered to imagine what I would do with that salary Grin too much effort for zero gain.

BasicDad · 20/10/2021 20:01

Save to £2m as quickly as possible while still enjoying a good quality of life and saving for my children, then retire from the £300k/yr job, which I assume would be quite demanding.

Would keep the 2m invested and draw down around 4% for a very comfortable life style. Would then pick up bits of work that I'm interested in, volunteering and trying to do whatever I can to make the world a better place.

Borderline champagne socialist, but I think there's a limit on wealth where you don't really need to accumulate more and can settle comfortably and help to put back.

FlaviaAlbiaWantsLangClegBack · 20/10/2021 20:01

I think the best option is to channel Scrooge McDuck and fill a swimming pool with the cash like a ball pit.

BFCfairy · 20/10/2021 20:03

I'd probably pay a housekeeper / food maker type person who would feed us nutritious meals and keep the place tidy.

Then I'd spend time with my children

But assume for 300k I'd be working flat out!

thequeenoftarts · 20/10/2021 20:03

House, car, bills, family, holidays, fun and more fun

Unsure1983 · 20/10/2021 20:03

Couldnt care less about holidays or expensive clothes or cars.

Absolutelypreposterous · 20/10/2021 20:04
