To stop ex seeing the kids while his housemate has covid

Just that really , he's had it himself a month ago and now one of his housemates that they've been partying with all weekend has just tested positive yesterday . My youngest always suffers terribly with anything respiratory and is autistic so that makes it harder to know how he's feeling so I'm very anxious about him catching covid. He usually sees them here at our house , they don't go to him and we've put off contact tonight just in case.
. I can't find a definitive answer online - some say yes they can still carry it even when they have immunity from recent infection , other sites say no.
Anyone know ? Xx

Depends on if his housemate has the same strain as he had. If not, he can catch the new strain from his housemate.

That’s as far as I understand it by someone who caught covid twice in a row. Finished isolating from one strain, week later was positive with a different one.

Oh bloody hell 😬

If he comes to yours to see them and not them going to his then yes I think it’s fine for him to see them.

Maybe if he comes to you, suggest they do something outside instead of being in the house.

Id leave it a week or so and see if he gets any symptoms or not

PurpleDaisies · 20/10/2021 18:38

Is he double vaccinated? If he is, plus a recent covid infection, he’s likely to be full of antibodies. If not, he needs to be isolating.

RedskyThisNight · 20/10/2021 18:41

Can't see the problem if the DC are not having any contact with the housemate (i.e. ex comes to you).
If the children are going to school they are pretty likely to catch Covid there anyway.

PurpleDaisies · 20/10/2021 18:42

What does your ex want to do regarding contact?

sal1223 · 20/10/2021 18:46

It's really bad weather here so outside not an option at the mo - he says he thinks we should er on the side of caution also . But I'm getting it in the neck from eldest 😣

You are both "the parents" and you have made your decision.

Make this clear to your eldest.

Hoardasurass · 20/10/2021 18:49

If he's double vaccinated then he only has to self isolate until he has a negative PCR test so in theory he should be able to have contact with your dc when he gets that negative result until then he shouldn't be leaving his house (apart from going for the test obviously)

How can you possibly know what strain you have when they don't tell you? Plus you'd test positive again if you did a pcr test straight after having covid? This is why they don't advise to retest for 90 days after contracting it.

If he's double vaccinated he doesn't need to self isolate

I think you're both right to er on the side of caution. You're the adults here so oldest will just have to deal with it. Can they face time? Can he make up the time later?
sal1223 · 20/10/2021 19:58

Yeah we'll do that , he's gone 10+ days not seeing them by choice so 🤷‍♀️.
I found this :-

www.gov.uk/government/news/past-covid-19-infection-provides-some-immunity-but-people-may-still-carry-and-transmit-virus

So think we've made the right call - not sure when it will be safer tho 😵‍💫

If you and your ex agree, stick to that. Sometimes parents make unpopular decisions. The kids will just have to make peace with that.
