To ask teachers and teaching assistants what you would really like for Christmas from a parent?

Dd is in nursery and has I think 4 teachers in her class, 2 she is very attached to! I’d like to get them all something nice for Christmas but don’t want to fall into the trap of smellies or boring chocolates! So please, what would you really like if you could give a wish list?!

I would love a bottle of wine

Me too. Last year I got no booze whatsoever. I always get teachers booze as even if they don't like it, it's so easy to regift or use in cooking.

A class collection is "Gold Standard" Shock

Why are you teachers not all saying look, we know that budgets are tight, a card or note saying one or two specifics about how the teacher helped the kid, for their portfolio for Ofsted, is perfect, please don't buy stuff.

Yes lots are BUT lots aren't.

Read the thread again, I asked why not all. HTH Smile

@liveforsummer

If you don't know a persons dietary needs or preferences what is the point.

Do people's dc not know this? My dd could probably tell you all of her teachers favourite snack and the dietary requirements of the whole class. One term in I can tell you that her current teacher is vegetarian, what brand of coffee he drinks, his star sign. I don't actually know his favourite treat yet but I do know last years was fererro rocher. I'm sure by Xmas I'll know.

The OP says her child is Nursery so likely won’t pick up on this level of detail. When I taught Nursery I was lucky if the kids got my name right by Christmas Grin

I say that too as a low income parent - easy for everyone, no pressure, cheaper AND no landfill tat and the teacher gets something useful that they want . I also know as a parent I WANT to get something as do the other parents I know. I've got one that's completed primary school and one who is half way through so only one teacher to get for now. Up to dd1 if she wants to make a card or get something for any particular teacher now.

As a TA I tend to get the odd small box of chocs that I'm thrilled with, but it makes total sense that a teacher receiving a handy voucher rather than 30 best teacher mugs and key rings is better all round, for the parents budget, the planet and the teachers mug cupboard.
The OP is asking because she wants to get something not because she feels she has to just like the majority of parents. If I can't afford it this year (may well be the case) I won't get something, if I can I will.

liveforsummer · 21/10/2021 14:48

@CallMeRisley yeh I realise a lot of my answers aren't totally helpful as I've answered the title rather than the actual post and been thinking about primary school. Nursery is different as there are more staff and you don't tend to know the Irene's as well for collections

I spoke harshly to purple - I regret that, apologies.

Because OP wants to buy a present for her child’s teachers and is asking for ideas. You realise she’s not sending the gifts to us?
