Does anyone have any positive leukaemia stories?

By positive, I mean "went into remission and stayed healthy", and by leukaemia I'm specifically thinking of AML (but any other types too, of course).

I find that a lot of the "my experience" stories out there are depressing, even the ones which aren't supposed to be!

Yes my mum. 2006 she was diagnosed when she was 55. AML. We thought she was going to die. She was so very very ill. 3 rounds of chemo (the first did not work). She dropped to be skeletally thin. She had a huge abscess developed during her last round of chemo. She had oral thrush (that was yuck). I cannot tell you how poorly she looked. When she recovered from her final round of chemo and gained some weight and got a bit of hair back she felt a million dollars. I got married then and she wore a wig for the service but danced the night away with her curly chemo skullcap hair. Not long after she went to Christie’s for a donor bone marrow transplant (thank you to that donor). I stayed for a few weeks in with her. Christie’s was so much better at caring for her than our local hospital but it was still really tough.

It’s now 2021 and 15 years from her diagnosis. She is as healthy as a bloody horse! She can walk me under the table, still cooks the full family Xmas dinner and looks after the grandkids and is all round vigorous. She is happy and wonderful and we are all so grateful!

Dear Jourdain, yesterday my husband started his 3rd round of treatment for Leukaemia. He was diagnosed 18 months ago through a random blood check and has had 2 rounds of chemo and 3 bone marrow biopsy’s. He started an anti cancer treatment yesterday that will last 8 weeks to hopefully clear the remaining 20% of infected cells.
My husband is 42 and we have two teenagers! The last 18 months have felt surreal with the constant appointments, the waiting, the hoping and the ups and downs. The sympathy and empathy I have for anyone going through cancer is immense having been in this journey with my beloved husband. I’m emotionally drained but I have to keep going for my husband and kids! I just hope and pray this treatment works.
Don’t Google anything, I made that mistake and there are a lot of horror stories out there and your MH will already be incredibly fragile. There are plenty of survivors and happy stories. Hopefully more people will share their happy stories with you on this thread.
Sending you love, positivity and my very best wishes in your fight xx

My friend was diagnosed with AML at 41. She is now 66. She is very healthy and strong. I’m not sure if she had bone marrow treatment. Her only lasting symptom is that her skin is a little sun sensitive.
