To ask how thorough your cleaner is

First world problem I realise but i'm interested to know.

I have been using a cleaner for the past 6 months and she's great and we get on well.
My house is very very old and is surrounded by fields which brings with it lots of spiders and therefore cobwebs. I keep on top of it in between her weekly visits but I find lots of dust and cobwebs and big spiders in corners when she has done a clean (dust and hoover through).
I know I need to talk to her to see if she could be a bit more thorough but wondered if other people find that a lot of areas are missed out? I always make sure the house is tidy and everything can be accessed but every week is the same. I'm quite a passive person and not looking forward to having to have this chat Blush How should I handle it?

I guess it depends on the size of the house and how long the cleaner is there. Garden to know if your cleaner isn't very good, or if they're not at the house for long enough

Our cleaner occasionally misses something, but if I point it out the following week eg please could you get rid of that cobweb, then she does it well and willingly

I would give her priorities and be appreciative there is probably only so much she can do in any given time - if that does not work , may be she isn't that good. I would imagine though if you haven not given her a list of your most important things she is just trying to clean nicely in the time she has

SirenSays · 19/10/2021 17:03

I wouldn't expect a cleaner to deal with big spiders.

@SirenSays

I wouldn't expect a cleaner to deal with big spiders.
I did think this, she has enough time to do it I think but will maybe just mention it in passing and see what the response is rather than asking her to do it.

If I had a job dealing with spiders I would run a mile and never come back - but that is just me. If you don't love the spiders may be she could hoover them up ( I apologise to any spider lovers here ) and then just empty the hoover ( but I do believe they can live for ages so would have to be emptied a way away ) Arachnaphobia is a thing so cobwebs - yes she could hoover them - actual spiders - I could not work there .

But I say again give her your priorities and it could work .

AutumnLeafy · 20/10/2021 15:41

She hasn't got time to pick up individual spiders and it would be cruel to vaccum them up. Maybe you could ask if she can spend more time on a different room each week, to try and like get in the corners and stuff but she'd have to eg. Leave one room a week.

FreyaFromTheFens · 20/10/2021 16:18

Thanks, will try and do the corners where they seem to hang out myself before she gets here. I had thought she was cutting corners but it seems not Smile

Cleaner is ok but don’t get me started on the cook, gardener and nanny. Grin

My cleaner does the jobs on list for Tuesday and Friday but would not think to do anything not on list even if plenty of time left. She is quite thorough on jobs she does though.
