Do I need to see ENT or an Optometrist

Been having on/off tension headaches Lately but I can't focus my eyes properly anymore feel like I'm looking through broken glass. And I'm having to strain my eyes and blink to regain focus again happening for a few weeks! I think this is making me feel dizzy and feel like I'm walking on marshmallows, like off balance and 'not right'. I've been to my opticians they have said my eye sight seems fine.
I'm going to go private but not sure if I need ENT or an eye doctor?

Thankyou xx

Neurologist?

2pointfourmonkeys · 18/10/2021 15:40

Have you spoken to your gp? I did after sudden onset worsening migraines and they referred me to neurology who triaged me with 2 weeks. In the mean time I found ways of managing things and didn't need it, but I think they take them quite seriously.

Bit if an optician says your eyesight is ok, ENT would be where i would go next if not neurology.

My gp said as I had bad headaches and my ears felt full then ent. He said he could send me to ent first but the wait list is like 12-18 months. The vision is affecting my work and walking and generally my life x

Or maybe I need to see a neurologist I just don't know Confused

Start with ophthalmology and they'll refer you on from there. They work closely with ENT and neurology colleagues if needed

freshflowers2 · 18/10/2021 16:26

Yes see an ophthalmologist. They are very well versed on all possible causes of dizziness / headaches /blurred vision. They can send you for scans if necessary and refer to neurology if needed.

Did your optom do a standard eye test or a PEARS (Primary Eye-care Assessment and Referral Service) - not all do it but the ones that do, have additional training.
Worth a try and then, depending on what they say, they or your GP can refer you on quicker if needed.
I had a full check up done when something similar happened to me when heavily pregnant and my GP couldn’t get me to neurology quickly enough. I’d be heading that way (neurology) rather than ophthalmology.
Hope you get it sorted x

Did the optician do a scan of your optic discs? You normally pay a bit extra for this (about £10). If not maybe ask for it. Also go back to see another Gp for advice

underneaththeash · 18/10/2021 19:00

@Tinitiny that scheme doesn't exist everywhere and only covers certain conditions. We're trained to detect visual abnormalities as standard.

So, is it happening intermittently? I would go back to your doctor as a first port of call, it could be a type of migraine or as you've said an ENT problem.
