To think restrictions won't back?

covidwoewoe · 17/10/2021 18:59

Wfh and masks I am fine with.

But the thought of restrictions like closing things and limits on socialising is causing me serious upset.

Trying so hard to live in the here and now but I hate the uncertainty.

Won't come

The lack of interest in the thread fills me with hope Grin

No one knows. Depends what happens in winter and if loads more people die I guess.

Fernando072020 · 17/10/2021 19:34

I doubt they will bring back restrictions. I think they'll expect an angry backlash if that happens so they'd rather just have people catch COVID and develop their "herd immunity" - it's what Boris wanted to do initially anyway.

mum2jakie · 17/10/2021 19:35

No I think they will avoid reintroducing any further restrictions and deaths are remaining relatively steady so don't see any reason to panic.

Porcupineintherough · 17/10/2021 19:37

I think its unlikely and would only happen if some new dangerous super variant arises or the number of hospital cases/deaths skyrockets. If that happens I reckon we'll be happy enough to lock down again.

SirensofTitan · 17/10/2021 19:40

Has there been a suggestion that restrictions might coming back?

covidwoewoe · 17/10/2021 19:43

@SirensofTitan no, just cases are rising and I'm a negative person.

OP posts:
gardeninggirl68 · 17/10/2021 19:43

yeah...waiting for the new variant to appear

cases appear to be rising though so who knows. I doubt we will get through winter without something happening though.

SirensofTitan · 17/10/2021 19:47

Cases rising isn't a reason to reintroduce restrictions

It's been said over and over and over again that it's Hospital admissions that are the driver. Is the NHS in danger of being overwhelmed?

Isn't it mainly school children catching the virus atm ? Hospitals not coping is what has driven lockdown so far.

XenoBitch · 17/10/2021 19:49

I really hope not. I won't be able to do much about businesses etc being forced to close, but I will not comply with not seeing family/friends again.

CherryBlossomWinter · 17/10/2021 19:52

England and the UK have very high rates of cases compared to Europe, which has really managed to keep cases low.

UK is in a terrible position and it’s really weird that no-one can see it. So many deaths a week. 1 in 12 children have Covid! It is utterly bonkers.

Most of this could be managed better by mitigations such as good ventilation. Masks on public transport (which everywhere in Europe is sign pretty much). School children need to wear masks and have good ventilation.

The UK is a Covid outlier.

There have been queues out in the cold in several A & E depts for a while now. Many hospitals are already overwhelmed as there are sustains high numbers.

The hospitalised and those dying are the unvaccinated. The reality is that includes children and teenagers.

MagnoliaBeige · 17/10/2021 19:53

I don’t think so, I think the policy is herd immunity now. The fact people who live with someone who has tested positive can go about as normal in the outside world (subject to being double jabbed, under 18 etc) shows there is little attempt now to contain it.

covidwoewoe · 17/10/2021 19:54

@CherryBlossomWinter France had nearly 40k cases a day in April when we had something like 1,000. People are so quick to bash the UK.

gardeninggirl68 · 17/10/2021 19:55

cases rising means more filling hospital beds! that, along with general flu, will put NHS into crisis....again

of course a rise in positive cases will have impact!

gardeninggirl68 · 17/10/2021 19:56

just over 45,000 new cases today for the UK

thewhatsit · 17/10/2021 19:57

I don’t think there is much uncertainty - I think the chance of any kind of further lockdown is incredibly remote and we aren’t being primed to expect one the way we were last autumn and winter etc.
I wouldn’t be surprised if some minor changes come in over winter - masks, maybe isolation if a family member has it, that sort of thing - but I don’t think the country can afford another lockdown and I don’t think there would be much support.

Springplanting · 17/10/2021 19:58

I think people took more care about social distancing before the masks. The second there was masks people too that as a given to reached right across you for the broccoli.

I don;t think there will be any more restrictions or lockdowns.

Springplanting · 17/10/2021 19:59

took not too

The UK has over double the rate of France at the moment. The UK has one of the worst handlings of the pandemic, the worst public health response, and the highest death rates in the bloody world!

It’s absolutely appalling. I’m British and I’m thoroughly ashamed of all the decision makers who are still making bad decisions. Being British doesn’t mean you say black is white.

50but17inside · 17/10/2021 19:59

Further restrictions will need to be implemented if hospital admissions rise - I believe 1200 daily has been mooted as the trigger number for this? I guess the alternative is not to admit the (through choice) unvaccinated on to wards - not sure our society is ready for that

Waxonwaxoff0 · 17/10/2021 20:00

I don't think anything will shut again. Furlough is finished so they'd have to reintroduce it which is unaffordable. Masks and WFH will probably be back at some point.
