Reading about how cleaners shouldnt expect to tidy up before cleaning it said that housekeepers get paid more. I was just wondering why you would be paid for more tidying than cleaning? To me it seems easier so wondered if there is more to it? Thanks.

A housekeeper would do any housework surely. Can be ironing, washing, cooking, cleaning, etc. Like a paid housewife.
In the big houses the housekeepers were managers of other staff.
In some workplaces housekeeping is I think more about ordering stuff, making sure supplies are there.

@traumatisednoodle

Although to be fair, they don't eat the food she cooks. Something like a bolongiase, chicken casserole, lasagne, curry, cottage pie, macaroni cheese- the sort of things COOK do.
These sound like the sort of thing I'd be happy to prepare.

Gosh I wish I could afford a housekeeper, it'd be lovely to come home one evening and find a clean house and a homemade casserole almost cooked! Grin

Bit like being a married man.

I never understood this thing of tidying for the cleaner to come. The cleaning takes sod all time if everything is completely tidy first. The whole point for me is to save time, I'm paying my cleaner to spend x hours so I don't have to. I'm not fussed if its half the time tidying half the time cleaning, as long as it's not me doing it. My cleaner has never objected to tidying as she goes and I'm reasonable in what I expect done overall in the amount of hours i pay - if it's a tip i know less cleaning will get done but its works for me and shes never objected.

Bit like being a married man.

My husband is one of those and he doesnt get that because I'm out at work. I think you mean "bit like being a man with a housewife".

I've had a real boost to my confidence with this thread and the other cleaning one - so thank you. Smile

I'd never contact anyone on MN though! Grin
