Cost of shoe repairs

Not sure this is in the right topic, but couldnt find a better one.

In these days of more thrift, I took a pair of sandals to be resoled[I think this is the correct term]. I took them to a local town repair shop. The cost was £30, which I thought was steep.

A few weeks later I had another pair that needed doing, so took them to a city shoe repair shop[a high street chain]. Their charge was £21.50.

Both charges seem to me to be excessive.

So, AIBU?

I find that having them resoled makes them better than they were originally, so can be worth it.

I have 25 year old leather boots that cost £200 ish(25 years ago), the leather is soft and buttery, with a gorgeous feel and shine... they are worth every penny of resoling and reheeling. One zip has been replaced too. The new soles are great for winter as they provide more grip.
I have a pair of Italian leather sandals that also get repaired when needed.

Cheap shoes, not so much...

I invest in good shoes because I want them to fit properly, and last. I've had many pairs resoled and re-heeled, and I've taken all sorts of odd repairs to the (independent) cobbler.

I'd object to 30 quid for a new sole on a pair of Primark shoes, but not on a £200 pair of boots that I've had for years, wear daily in winter and love to bits, it's all relative.

hmm, I see your points.
Shoes not the cheapest, but not £200.

It is better grip that I was after, and to be fair, although £30, the grip is much better.

Just didnt expect the costs to be as high.
