Adele’s single-boring and self absorbed ( and slightly cringeworthy)?

Firstly, I love Adele’s music and very much admire her character and was very much looking forward to her new music.

However, her new song never goes anywhere. There is nothing, musically, to make your hair stand on end or really want to listen. If I were having a conversation in the car, I would not notice it in the background.

Of course, her voice is, as ever, sublime, but many of the ornaments sound forced and some good clear long notes would have been far better. In addition, after about 90 seconds it is , effectively, ‘on repeat’.

As for the words, I can just imagine her child listening to them as a teen or young adult and cringing.

Of course, the professional reviews love it, but I suspect they would not review Adele badly regardless of what she put out.

So AIBU or do I just not appreciate what is being done here (open to any opinions)?

Amy Winehouse had a great voice too. I miss her being around.

A single parent who earns shed loads and will give her son everything he needs.
Worked hard to get where she is and lost weight too.
Not a bad role model really I think although I appreciate that not everyone will ever be able to earn what she has of course.

Cheeseontoastwithchopsauce · 16/10/2021 09:17

@nothingbutthetruthsohelp

Don't like her since she lost weight
Whats her weight got to do with it?
DrSbaitso · 16/10/2021 09:18

They hyped it too much.

StCharlotte · 16/10/2021 09:18

What she does she does brilliantly. No doubt. But she's the ultimate one trick pony isn't she?

Chicchicchicchiclana · 16/10/2021 09:20

Ah ok, didn't realise she got married until so much later. They'd been together a good while by then.

IComeInPeace · 16/10/2021 09:20

If AW were alive, there'd be room for both of them, they're so different.

trappedsincesundaymorn · 16/10/2021 09:21

And its always a women singer - every-single -time

FWIW I find Ed Sheeran's music as boring as I find Adele's...can't abide stuff from either of them.

MrsSkylerWhite · 16/10/2021 09:21

Can’t disagree, really.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 16/10/2021 09:22

What the fuck has single mothers and "benefits scroungers" got to do with anything?

DebbieHarrysCheekbones · 16/10/2021 09:26

@Chicchicchicchiclana

Touchy op! Pp was saying that loads of people agree with you, as do I (about the quality of the song). I seem to remember saying the same about her previous single. It's all rather samey.

If you want to talk about insufferably DREADFUL music being churned out by musicians who should know better at the moment, I give you the latest offerings by Sting, Rod Stewart, Roger Taylor and Diana Ross. Never has my working day been more interrupted by having to leap up to turn off the radio!

The Rod Stewart “song” is beyond abysmal.
That “together we smashed it” combined with the toe curling section with the relenting female singer in had me howling with laughter
Rosesareyellow · 16/10/2021 09:26

Whiney and sad sounding non-female singers are just as irritating. James Arthur just whines, Sam Smith even more so, Will Young back in the day. I find it awful to listen to. But they don’t get quite the same hype I suppose - there for not the same amount of criticism, which is fair enough surely.
Ed Sheeran is definitely comparable - massive hype, a lot of people irritated because it doesn’t in all honesty seem warranted.

Chickychickydodah · 16/10/2021 09:26

Brilliant singer, songs are awful, over hyped and repetitive.

mustlovegin · 16/10/2021 09:27

Ed Sheeran is great also Grin

saltontoast · 16/10/2021 09:27

Absolutely boring, easily forgettable and I find this whole new branding to be pointless when her music hasn't changed

tothesea · 16/10/2021 09:27

I don’t understand the Amy Winehouse comment. They were hugely successful singers at the same time.
Chasing Pavements is one of my favourite songs. Adele has an amazing voice, I would love to see her live and I think she is a funny and down to earth as a mega millionaire can be.
I don’t like the new single much though.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 16/10/2021 09:29

@brittleheadgirl

So bland, just unbelievably boring. I feel the same about so many other apparently 'amazing' artists. Ed Sheeran?! Honestly I feel like I'm a visiting alien when my colleagues start gushing about the music they like Confused
Ds and I bond over our hatred for Ed Sheeran, just awful!

I heard the new song yesterday and was so underwhelmed I turned it off half way through. Not for me, plenty will love it though.

Songoftheseas · 16/10/2021 09:30

I absolutely love it. On that basis YABU 😁 Seriously though, everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I’m not a huge fan of Adele herself but have always loved her songs and this one is no different. I find her words very beautiful and meaningful and her voice is incredible.

DrSbaitso · 16/10/2021 09:31

I used to like Ed Sheeran but he seems to have stopped trying.

brittleheadgirl · 16/10/2021 09:32

@OliverBabish

I like it. I understand the sentiment of having a child and just trying to do your best even when you’re still growing yourself.
I understand the sentiment too. Doesn't mean I want to listen to someone blandly singing to me about it though Grin
SheeceRearsmith · 16/10/2021 09:32

Awful. Preferred Skyfawwwwl to this. And that’s saying something. Hats off to her PR company.

Hrpuffnstuff1 · 16/10/2021 09:34

Over a decade of moaning about her ex's, love life.
Really, talk about NOT moving on, or keeping one's counsel.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

mustlovegin · 16/10/2021 09:35

Yes, perhaps all of them run the risk of becoming complacent at some point

PinkiOcelot · 16/10/2021 09:37

Personally, I can’t stand any of her music at all. I fail to see what is so fantastic about her. She is on of the singers I actually turn the radio off for.

MintyGreenDream · 16/10/2021 09:38

I think she as a person is great but her music is drivel
