What is the difference between giving an opinion and lecturing?

I'm just wondering about this, what would you say is the difference between offering an opinion and lecturing? I see a lot of people criticising public figures and people in the public eye for lecturing but are they just offering and stating an opinion or lecturing as the people criticising them argue they are doing. Would you say it's the tone and way they go about it that matters?

It's one of those irregular verbs:
I offer an opinion
He/she lectures
They are interfering busybodies
Grin

"i think/i believe"
"You should think/believe"
Is a jist of it.

Imho it is a lot about the tone.

I thought it meant " I know you are right really but that makes things awkward for me do I like to pretend otherwise "

To me the difference is
Express opinion- say an opinion concisely.
Lecturing- tearing down another person’s opinion or several others persons opinions, expressing your opinion along with comments about how superior and more educated you are and going on and on about it in an effort to get the audience to agree with you.

One is expressing a view, the other is going on and on about it.

Giving an opinion -happy to hear other people’s opinions to open up a discussion

Lecturing -not interested in a discussion

I think society as a whole is losing the ability to have a reasoned debate respecting other’s opinions so one get confused with the other.

Lecturing often comes from the left and form those who think they are progressive and everyone else is stupid. Lecturing is also associated with people who turn out to be vacuous hypocrites. Like climate activists and hypocrites in chief Harry and Meghan.

I can't wait for all the "we need less polution, shame on you all people!" People to come here and bitch about new nuclear power plants.

Most "cilamte" nuggies are really big hypocrites, yeah. "I don't so it, therefore, you shouldn't do it and be happy about it. I don't cre you don't do something else. I don't wanna"

Being prepared to give voice space to the other side.

Not seeking to override the questions or the views of the opposing side.

Listening to opinions, and honestly answering questions.

Duration, as much as anything. Stating a belief once: opinion. Repeating it for an hour: lecture.

Although I also agree with a PP that there's an element of 'I think' being an opinion. And 'you/all right thinking people should think' being a lecture.

And, of course, some people do believe that if they're not the ones talking/being paid the most attention, then they're being lectured.
