To think there's no excuse for this

Spoke to DS 19 who's at uni, he was talking about how one of the lads on his course is planning on going to a Halloween party dressed as Jimmy Saville. When I Spoke to DH about this he said it's not good and he wouldn't be impressed if it was his child but it's a young uni student being stupid and he'll look back when he's older and be mortified. I don't agree with this as I think it's disgusting and at 19 he should know better and there's no excuse. I know this has nothing to do with me as he's not my son and I don't know him but it still shocked me to be honest.

Teenagers do stupid stuff... dont sweat it if its isnt your kid!

NailsNeedDoing · 14/10/2021 16:47

I’d just see it as a teenager wanting to do something he knows is a bit controversial for attention. Understandable considering how much 19 year olds have missed out on fun they should have been able to have over the last couple of years.

TheKeatingFive · 14/10/2021 16:49

Teen who is unrelated to you does a dumb thing.

There's no point in engaging OP. He's young and stupid but not breaking any laws.

Heartofglass12345 · 14/10/2021 16:54

I went on a night out in 2007 and someone dressed up as bin laden Blush

WeRTheOnesWeHaveBeenWaitingFor · 14/10/2021 16:54

Teenagers love to be edgy, the jokes I used to think were funny were awful thinking back.

IfIHadAHeart · 14/10/2021 16:56

I have seen a few stags dressed up as Jimmy savile recently. Not my idea of humour 🤷🏼‍♀️

Howshouldibehave · 14/10/2021 16:56

Didn’t Prince Harry dress up as a Nazi to a fancy dress party at a similar age?!

VladmirsPoutine · 14/10/2021 16:57

I don't think it's really all that of a big deal. I can't understand why you're that shocked tbh.

Sidge · 14/10/2021 17:00

Bad taste parties have been around for years.

I believe that’s why Harry wore a Nazi costume.

Most of us just wore terrible clothes, some pushed the boundaries and went as Jimmy Saville, Hitler, Gadaffi etc.

Sinner10 · 14/10/2021 17:00

My friends husband is doing this and he’s not 19! I think my face said it all.

I went on a zombie pub crawl in 2006/2007 and there was a bloke dressed up as a zombie Steve Irwin. That was definitely too soon for that costume 😱
OhWhatFuckeryIsThisNow · 14/10/2021 17:06

Yeah, my ds (in his 20s) went out as zombie Curt Cobain, including fake bullet hole in his forehead. I wasn’t impressed.

Aquamarine1029 · 14/10/2021 17:08

Not your child, not your problem.

Reallyimeanreally2022 · 14/10/2021 17:09

What are you disagreeing with your DH about?
Both in agreement it’s unpleasant

hangrylady · 14/10/2021 17:12

Well Savile was probably one of the scariest things on earth so probably quite fitting for Halloween.

Reallyimeanreally2022 · 14/10/2021 17:14

One way of looking at it is that this person views JS as a horror figure. Which he is.
You getting worked up is almost saying JS should be treated with respect!

flippertyop · 14/10/2021 17:17

Can't see the issue - not your kid

mynameiscalypso · 14/10/2021 17:21

God, we had a bad taste fancy dress party when we were about 25. You'd have been appalled.

Idontlike · 14/10/2021 17:29

Well if he’s tagged in photos dressed like that it may come back and bite him on the bum. Prospective employers tend to google people these days & I can’t imagine that showing him as an ideal candidate.

I remember the fury when two young women dressed as the twin towers for a party, complete with aeroplane protruding from one of the cardboard buildings.

Beyond bad taste.

rbe78 · 14/10/2021 17:33

Bad taste parties were a thing when I was at uni - but somehow I assumed the kids today would be too scared of it ending up on social media and ruining their future woke for them to still be a thing!

MadeOfStarStuff · 14/10/2021 17:34

Teenager does something deliberately controversial because they think it’s funny is pretty standard. If it was your DS then you would warn him it may haunt him in the future but it’s not your son so not your place to give a shit.

Sparklfairy · 14/10/2021 17:35

I can't remember the (fictional) show, but a girl dressed up as Charlie Chaplin for Halloween and forgot her bowler hat...

If I saw someone dressed as JS at a party, it would seriously change my opinion of them tbh.

I think it's fairly obvious that OP feels the victims deserve more respect and that for their sake, this man's crimes shouldn't be trivialised.

I do get what you're saying about him being a monster, though.
