To ask about Jeff Bezos and the moon

I’ve read about it a few times but still don’t understand. Is Jeff Bezos suing NASA because they wont let him have access to the moon or because they let Elon Musk have priority access to the moon over him? Why does NASA even have any control rights over the moon of planet Earth? Or am I misunderstanding all of this?

@SickAndTiredAgain

Yep, he wants his money! Interestingly, SpaceX were asking for $2.9 billion, but Blue Origin wanted $6 billion-ish. They said after the fact that they would have reduced it if asked, but NASA had asked them to put their best offer first and wouldn’t accept changes after the contract had been awarded to SpaceX. NASA believes that Blue Origin gambled and lost.

Probably most importantly for JB though, is that while he’s suing, the whole human landing system project has to be halted. Basically, if he can’t have it, no one else can either. Hmm

@SoniaFouler

So if NASA doesn’t control or own the moon and Jess Bezos wants to send a lander to the moon, why doesn’t he just do so without the permission from NASA? Or is this just a lawsuit against what he perceives to be illegal and he might do that anyway? Sorry for all the questions, I am just left quite bamboozled on this entire thing.
Bezos wants to be paid to do it.

If he did it himself, he would have to fund himself.

If NASA accepted his bid, they would be paying him.

@MrsRobbieHart

Because Bezos didn’t want the contract so he could build a moon lander. He wanted the contract so he could make a fortune out of NASA. If they’d offered a contract to paint all millionaires purple he’d have wanted it. Not because he wants to paint anyone purple…

Got it, understood.

And also Bezos probably needs the NASA staff and experience, he probably can't do it on his own.

Well I found the juxtaposition funny…

Gosh this reminds me of that Minions film...

Don’t understand the ins and outs. Captain Kirk (nearly) going into space made me smile though Grin

In all seriousness, I find it disgusting that the guy doesn't pay tax, yet expects handouts from the taxpayer to have a willy waving competition with another billionaire. Bezos space tourism has massive environmental impact, meanwhile we the peasants get berated for the impact of commercial flights or putting the wrong thing in our recycling. Vive la revolution!

In less seriousness, on top of all that, he decided that same day deliveries aren’t even a thing on Amazon Prime anymore, the grabby prick!
