"No stupid prices" what?

At a loose end this morning waiting for the vet and made the mistake of scrolling through Facebook selling pages.

The majority of the adds Include some variant of wanted.... no stupid / covid price.

I.e. Wanted man with a van to move me into a house next week. 1 load max. No stupid prices.

Wanted green sofa. 3 and 2 seater. Sensible second hand prices please no covid prices.

What's a stupid price? Why not state your budget?

IABU to be on Facebook obviously, but AIBU to think its madness to post a wanted add and state that without saying what you consider a silly price?

Tried selling a horse in spring. Well priced and comparable to others that I know had sold based on hh/age/experience. The amount of "no silly prices" "only willing to pay pre-covid prices" on horse wanted posts is unbelievable. They are basically saying they want you to ignore the market price and sell half price. Put the horse on and was inundated with "I have X experience and was looking precovid so please can you tell me the pre-covid price" or I saw a cob precovid for £500 so will offer you that for your eventer. Worse are the ones who reply to the posts as if they are 100% buying him just to ignore your price, offer a "sensible offer" way below mine and then cry when your are unwilling to accept their made up precovid price and then reply again on the post to say I'm a timewaster.
Ended up letting DD friend ride it through the season and have just sold for £2k more than I had him on for.

This has made me think of a post I saw yesterday on Facebook. 13 year old Corsa for sale. £550 no offers. The car is locked and the key is missing. There is no spare….

Wanted X item in Y colour, must be in perfect condition. Only interested if cheap.
Well either it will be cheap or it will be perfect but it's unlikely to be both.

@MrsRobbieHart
I don't know about now but 20 years ago I discovered that most old vauxhall keys opened most old Vauxhalls. They must have started very similar and once that had a bit of wear they seem to open anything. I rescued loads of people that had locked their keys in theirs astra/nova with my trust old cav. keys

I had this the other day, someone was selling a desk that I wanted but he had no price on it just - 'no silly offers'. So I messaged him and asked him how much he wanted for it, his reply was offer first. I didn't bother. I wanted to buy a desk not play games.

Tbh people do post silly prices for second hand settes when you could put a good portion of that to a new one. If they are going second hand it's because they don't tend to have alot of cash to buy new. I've done alot of upcyclying of furniture recently the amount of money people charge when there's some many of the same stuff for cheaper or can get cheaper or slightly more for new is crazy.

SnowyPetals · 14/10/2021 16:17

Saying "pre covid prices only" is a bit like saying "I wish to pay what this cost in 1985". 😂 Markets change.

SockFluffInTheBath · 14/10/2021 16:23

I take ‘no stupid prices’ as code for ‘I’m a CF who wants it for tuppence’.

And the number of ‘free sofa, collection only’ ads getting ‘I’m a can you please deliver?’ makes me want to tip ours when we change it rather than pass it on.

@Travelledtheworld

Round here it's "can anyone recommend a good plumber/tiler/drystone Waller/decorator who doesn't cost the Earth ? Needed for next week. " These are all skilled professions. You will wait a YEAR for a really good trades person. Anyone who can do the job next week will be a cowboy.
Yes!! We are in the middle of a MAJOR national skills shortage. A professional reputable tradesperson is currently booked up months and months in advance.

People want excellent service and quality workmanship, but want to pay fuck all for it.

WomanStanleyWoman · 14/10/2021 17:31

People think it makes them sound very no-nonsense, straight down the line; ‘I’m not the kind of person who gets ripped off, so don’t bother even trying’. It actually just means they get very few offers as no one wants to deal with them, or are too confused about what they want to bother.

It’s the same with people who put ‘No time wasters’. What do they think will happen? That someone will read it and think, ‘Oh, I was going to waste their time, but now that I know they wouldn’t like that I won’t do it’?!

Any recommendations of budget accommodation for 6 couples with 10 young children sharing. House, cottage etc

anothername007 · 01/02/2022 08:59

My favourite is a good reliable cheap cleaner. That has me ROFL. The words cheap and luxury should be taken off requests. Also can you recommend a restaurant in London! FFS state your budget!

I've come to the conclusion that it's impossible to buy or sell on FB marketplace as it's very much '99% of them are complete idiots and if you're not, they'll beat you with experience'.

I tried to sell my old, MOT failure, needed money spending on it but would have been worth it to someone who could do the work themselves, car on there and I wrote in big letters that the car had failed it's MOT, it couldn't be driven on the road, they should check the DVLA website for MOT failure details so they knew what they were looking at and the first few hours I had about 2 dozen people who had seen nothing more than CHEAP CAR and were demanding they come and take it away right now, at 11 pm Hmm.

Fortunately after about 2 days, it was seen by someone who did buy and bodge repair cars and he came, with his trailer, and took it away for vaguely sensible money.

I've also tried to buy a second hand item, that I didn't want to buy new/pay full price for and saw what I appeared to want, for prices I was happy to pay, but when I made enquiries, was either ignored, or they'd say it was sold. So why not cancel the advert then?

Luckily, I found an example of the item I was looking for, in excellent condition, dumped as part of a pile of rubbish while I was out walking the other day, so I took that for free.

BarbaraofSeville · 01/02/2022 09:18

Oh, didn't realise it was a zombie Blush

TheFlis12345 · 01/02/2022 09:19

I saw one yesterday wanting bunk beds picked up from a town about 10 miles away. The person asking ‘generously’ Hmm said they ‘could pay a small amount for petrol’.

daimbarsatemydogsbone · 01/02/2022 09:21

I hate this ridiculous Alan Sugar/The Apprentice bartering for everything, where everyone seems to think they are Donald fucking Trump over buying a sofa.
For low value items I'd rather give the fuckers away to a charity shop or similar.
