Work training - pull a sicky

64 replies

Islandcircle4 · 14/10/2021 04:49

Really considering pulling a sicky tomorrow at work. Work have organised an all day training event for the whole department around 50 people. No assurances of Covid safety,how far apart tables are etc or what the day looks like. I’m anxious. I don’t fancy it and the possibility of catching Covid. I feel bad to call in sick but really don’t want to go. Why couldn’t this be done online. Would this be naughty.

The old Covid excuse 😂😂😂😂

@Islandcircle4

Like I said I really don’t want long Covid or loss of tatse and smell for weeks or months on end. I’m entitled to feel how I like
You do realize you posted in AIBU? If you don’t w as to hear people opinions, this is a weird forum to ask your question.

@lovemelongtime

I dont understand those people saying "if you are double vaccinated you are fine" - what bollocks. Double vaccinated people can and do get covid all the time. The difference is that a vaccine greatly reduces your chances of ending up in hospital - but doesnt mean you "won't" ever get it. Please get your facts right
So what? Like other said how is it different to many other infections?

Op: Am I being unreasonable?
MN : Yes
Op: well I’m not and you are all being mean, flounces off.

I hate it when people come out with this old chestnut. It's bullying, and in this case it's not even true.

……yes, but you literally went on an online forum to ask people’s opinions.. which they are giving you.

Covid is the elephant in the room at the moment that no one wants to talk about any more.

But it's killing 100+ every day compared to flu which kills about 20 a day.

Astra Zeneca vaccine has 65% efficacy, with waning effect.

I can understand you not wanting to go OP. Just report symptoms the day before and stay away. The world won't stop if you don't go and it might just save your life.

Are you joking? Nobody shuts up about it.

In my opinion, a good employer would be proactive in considering and communicating what arrangements will be in place on the day. I would ask them. It's not exactly in the company's interest if were to be an outbreak in the team and a load of them have to take time off at the same time, so they might already have things in place, just not communicated very well. It seems usual now for all sorts of event details to include brief info on Covid arrangements as they know that many possible attendees, or their employers, will want to know.

OP, my workplace organises training days like this, only monthly with 50-75 people.
At the one last month, colleagues were going in for the hug!

I had Covid three weeks ago (caught off DS) and am still struggling with ongoing symptoms. I'm double vaccinated.

I question whether my workplace needs this monthly training, though everybody else seems fine with it.

If you are genuinely concerned, then talk to your manager.

WellLarDeDar · 15/10/2021 10:26

I really wouldn't underestimate your colleagues and assume they'd be dum enough to have no idea what you're up to if you pull a sickie. They will know. Just take a mask and some hand sanitizer and go do your job.

"entitled" yep you are that. Do you actually have diagnosed anxiety that you're seeking treatment for.... Or do you just get a bit anxious?

MintyGreenDream · 15/10/2021 10:41

Have I woken up in 2020?

I have diagnosed anxiety and am not getting any treatment for it. I knew I had anxiety before it was diagnosed. A grown adult doesn't need a diagnosis to know they have anxiety.

Unless OP is one of those people who say "oh that's just given me anxiety" about a single incident. They're the worst.
