My 19 Yr old son is in a serious (🙄) relationship with a lovely girl, who I have nothing in common with. Thr relationship has been over a year and she makes him happy, so I want to get her a decent gift. She's quite gothy and has a good job, so buys all her own different clothes, and platform Docs. My son is FLIPPING USELESS. Ideas? I have 2 older sons and a 9yo DD so NO CLUE.
She wears makeup but if I get a load of MAC vouchers will that be too mainstream or ,,??????
Please help!!

Vouchers are a bit impersonal -- it shows a lot more thought to get her something that's actually "her". I was/am the goth girlfriend to my partner's very normie mother (although i haven't been 19 for some time...). I was always very glad to receive things like: a dark/moody Chanel nail varnish or eyeshadow, deep red/wine colour Tom Ford lipstick, etc -- things that were perhaps higher end than I would normally buy myself and showed appreciation for my own moody/spooky/dark/goth style.

Don't be tempted to go for halloweeny type stuff -- skulls or vampire shit. She might like it, but equally she might think it's cheap/juvenile/gimmicky. To the untrained eye anything halloweeny is goth but it really, really isn't!

Why not give her an Etsy gift card/Amazon gift card then she can buy something that she will want and like and actually use ..and so she has something to open on the day why not wrap up a small box of chocolates and give it with the gift card...I know that many people would rather have a gift card than a present they don't like and won't ever use

PumpkinCrumble · 14/10/2021 09:03

I think a Lush gift box might be a good idea. Or a Dr Marten’s scarf/socks, or even a bag from there.

But also agree with suspira777

Helenahandkart · 14/10/2021 09:16

So easy to get this wrong - I was a teen goth and wouldn’t have been impressed with tarot cards and bat sanctuary visits. To me that would have been a lazy cliche.
Agree with the high-end make-up approach, but the animal testing element is possibly problematic. We all wore (low-end) Barry M make-up.
Expensive fishnet tights? Lace gloves? Nothing with spiderwebs on though.
Gig tickets is definitely a winner.
There’s a big resurgence in vinyl so maybe a record if she has a deck to play it on?

Andrewthecharminbumwiper · 14/10/2021 09:26

A company called bee zero waste do some gorgeous black beeswax candles that I think would look great in a goth-y flat or bedroom hopefully without being Halloweeny, maybe with a vintage silver plate or tray to stand them on (ebay). I've got the natural coloured ones and they come nicely wrapped and are good quality.

fantasmasgoria1 · 14/10/2021 09:29

Just havea casual conversation with her. Oh your makeup looks lovely what brand is that lipstick or eyeshadow. That kind of thing. I'm a goth but I never use mac. I use a combination of stuff. Emp is a good idea or killstar they have some nice things.

Vindo · 14/10/2021 11:09

I loved a voucher for gig tickets back in my young goth days.

It shows you have thought about something she will enjoy, but she can choose which gig she wants to attend and when.

Notimeforaname · 14/10/2021 11:36

I second a gift card for EMP website.

Or make up.

IfImLyingImDying · 14/10/2021 11:45

Regal Rose jewellery.

Marvellousmadness · 14/10/2021 12:20

Voucher

Shows her that you care
And then let her decide what to buy.

Win win really 😊

worrieddaughterrr · 14/10/2021 13:36

Handbag from Killstar! Or anything from there.

What's the eye roll face about? Both my lads were in a serious relationship at that age and they are both still seeing their respective gfs.

How about a picture of the lyrics to their favourite song.
Or may be a lyric from a song that both her and your son like and and drawing ( Have a look a thing Art and lyrics on instal see what I mean)

Maybe a piece of jewellery with a spider or something in it.
I bought my goth friend one with a dead fly in and she still wears it. A bit weird but that's the point.
Another year I got my goth friend some pjs with skulls on. They were both practical and fun.

notacooldad · 14/10/2021 13:51

Are you anywhere near Afflecks palace in Manchester or Camden market. Those places have quite fun things that you don't expect to see.

You don't have to go full out goth though.
Customised cheesecake from a local cake maker was popular last year with the gfs. So was a box set of mini Olaplex .

SnapAndFartAllDayLong · 14/10/2021 13:57

Hi OP

I love this website, it has loads of clothes, homewears and quirky things, maybe a voucher for this store if you cannot decide on something? I'm a bit gothicy, more 'alternative' though and I'd order loads of bits if I had the funds 🤣 good luck 👍

As an ancient ( 55 this Saturday 😯😯) lol old original goth...you really can't go wrong with buying her something funky from LUSH..I' ve noticed it's always full of young got hs/ emos ( whatever the he'll they are ) and even on EBay Lush products are bought at silly prices by young women that age..I.always loved really nice incense ..so he could buy her one of those electric essential oil diffusers ..some of them are in the shape of Buddha's & all the cliches young folks like ..lol..When I.was a high in the 80' s in my teens it was stripey stockings like the Wicked Witch of the North ..black lipstick & huge hair😂😂

boronia · 17/06/2022 00:10

I'd do a bottle of her favourite alcohol ( if she drinks) plus favourite chocolates and cash.

Whatup · 17/06/2022 00:49

I like gothic subscription boxes you can get one offs. Also pastel goth stuff is amazing if she wears any pink. I got a black coffee moka pot that makes incredibly strong coffee and looks great from aldi £2.99. A shudder tv pass if shes really into horror?
