Posting for traffic as posts elsewhere don't seem to get much response sorry but I'm desparate
has anyone here tried hypnotherapy - how did you choose a therapist? What's a reasonable price to pay (I'm based in Manchester)?

I've had a Google for the ones nearest to me. Their prices range from £60 to £150 per session, all accredited with lots of glowing reviews etc etc. Don't know how to choose/what to look out for?
Thanks in advance

Im interested to know this too.

Look for someone who has been well trained.

www.hypnotherapists.org.uk/

Search for someone in your area who has been qualified a few years and specialises in the area you are interested in. Meet them first for a chat to see whether you feel comfortable with them.

Training varies hugely so you need to be careful. This registering body has high standards.

Yes, most of them have a raft of qualifications. None of them specialise in my specific area (exam anxiety). Most of them don't have a degree in counselling/psychology or anything like that.

What I'm wondering though is the reason for the price differentials?

I paid around £150 per session (London) for 3 sessions of hypnotherapy to address my driving phobia. Worked a treat and I passed my driving test. hazelgale.com/ she has put her prices up a lot now, I think this is because she has become very successful and can make a living seeing fewer clients. I reckon that's the same with anyone really.

SwayingInTime · 13/10/2021 21:31

Gouri Laher, she’s wonderful, very effective and practical treatment for my family and a lovely person.

FellInLoveWithABanana · 13/10/2021 21:33

I went with my gut feeling. I found my therapist’s Instagram and just knew, compared to the Paul McKenna looking men

i understand each to their own, but to me its money better spent elsewhere than on a seudo science method so to speak. although at your request for advice, just be careful you choose.

HAHAHA Did you find a lot of men - odd because most of the ones I found were women! I haven't actually spoken to any yet but I'm worried that I'll like all (or none) of them

@Hawkins001 what would be a better use of money?

OP posts:
Odoreida · 13/10/2021 21:41

What I found amazing about the process was just how successful it was in fixing my particular problem. Good luck with your journey! And in answer to your question as to how I chose my hypnotherapist, it was word of mouth - a friend knew her and had had a good experience. I would say that is a good place to start.

Odoreida · 13/10/2021 21:42

@Hawkins001it's the best money I have ever spent on myself, personally!

Craftylittlething · 13/10/2021 21:45

I had hypnotherapy recently and found it incredibly helpful, she was recommended by a friend. Asking for personal recommendations is a good starting point.

Kljnmw3459 · 13/10/2021 21:48

I did hypnotherapy but that was some years ago already. I paid £60 per session and the hypnotherapist told me that it's max 6 session limit. I did 3 or 4 sessions for my phobia. It was helpful and he also gave me lots of advice to continue working on the issues by myself.

romdowa · 13/10/2021 21:49

I had one session years ago for a crippling fear of needles. Was given a tape to listen to every night after and two weeks later I got my bellybutton pierced . So I found it very effective

romdowa · 13/10/2021 21:50

Posted too soon. Mine was reccomended to me by a girl I was in college with. Word of mouth is usually the way to go.

ShoppingBasket · 13/10/2021 21:55

I found it great also, some offer through zoom/phone which I think is great as you can relax in your own home.

ShoppingBasket · 13/10/2021 21:56

Approx 100 euro, so about £80. Look for someone who won't take you on immediately but listens to what your issue is and whether they can help you or not and discuss what they can do for you.

What makes it better than counselling?

goingonahairbunt · 13/10/2021 22:19

I've had crippling anxiety for years and medication and counselling never helped but was encouraged to try hypnotherapy by a friend who had had positive results. I had an introductory session to check whether or not I was comfortable with the process and then a full hour long session a couple of weeks later. I can't really articulate what it changed but I have never felt better and 9 months on I still feel great. I think I paid £90 for the session. The process itself felt like a really refreshing nap and very dreamlike - worth the money for that alone!!

Cazziebo · 13/10/2021 22:20

Long time ago now but I had hypnotherapy on the NHS. Amazing result. Came off anti-depressants and managed to control anxiety. The best outcome was that my insomnia was cured- to the extent that many years later I can fall asleep at will and wake up 6 hours later totally rested.

Before hypnotherapy I would go to bed exhausted, fall asleep for an hour, and then awake until morning.
