Live abroad, thinking of returning to the U.K. with toddler Dd.
It would be just her and I.
The salary I’ve seen is for £25 thousand, how would we be able to live on that amount, would we be ok? I have no idea of prices of things, bills etc, nowadays.
I imagine an average mortgage would be £800? then with bills, food etc.
My position would be a lower one than my qualifications, but would fit around my Dd at school etc by then
Would you get any help for being alone and on that salary?

Yes it is very usual for HLTAs to be taking classes, planning, working with SEN etc - that is actually the job :)

What is very unusual is for it to pay anything close to £25.

And a huge contribution to fees

This simply doesn’t ring true

Have you got personal connections with the school? I don't think 25£ is impossible as such, but it may be if you have school fees on top of that.

When do the jobs start op?

HLTA role near me. Nearly 25k actual salary, 36.5 hours, term time only. Not a private school either. A friend of mine is a TA in a private school, also a teacher and she had specialist EAL experience. When she left the place we worked together she negotiated a 25k salary (after pro-rata) term time only, at the private school. She has a lot of experience so they were prepared to pay more. It may be unusual but it is possible in private schools. Local authority it would never happen.

Wow I am surprised! Is ruled it out (ex teacher) as it is far less here.

@ButterflyAway

Well considering I’m raising three kids alone on less than £20k a year, yes that’s more than doable.
In the UK!? How?
Viviennemary · 13/10/2021 19:31

I wondered the same. Are you getting benefits on top of that. Have you rent or a mortgage to pay. Maintenance?

You have entirely missed my point

This is £25k PLUS substantial fee assistance. My children’s prep school is £16k per child per year.

DixonD · 13/10/2021 22:17

How would you afford to top up school fees, pay a mortgage and all other bills on only £25k? Even two people earning £25k each would find this challenging.
