I'm about to start my new job in a couple of weeks. I'm heading up the play scheme on a hospital ward for children who are very unwell and are patients with us for a long time. At the moment they use play as a distraction when doing medical interventions during the hours of 9-4 Monday to Friday but recently the hospital has received funding for a full time 24/7 play team, so the children can access the play room if applicable and now the play team can come to them at all times of the day and night to help with mood and interaction and of course to help distract during medical interventions even if it's at 3am.
They had a bit of feedback saying that children tend to open up and interact more to the play specialists than with medical staff.
So if your child was in hospital for a while, what was good ? What could be done differently? Did you have access to the play team if there was one?
