How are you suppose to go to interview?!!!

Ok AIBU.....
Looking for a new job . I currently work Monday to Friday 8-5 . No flexability. One week notice required for holiday day. And questions asked ....

I have been offered a few interviews during my search . Usually 2 days before with really little flexibility on the times offered only 11am , 12, 1pm . How the hell are you suppose to go for interviews......

I went to one and had a sick day (no other option!) and didn't get that. I can't keep being sick if I don't get others.....
How does everyone manage it??

I just read this whole thread in one go, and for once it was actually worth it in the end! I genuinely smiled when I read your update post. Yay for you! 🎉

Me too - I was just about to post a good luck message and you did it!! I vicariously can't wait until you have a job where you aren't expected to account for every piss and hair out of place!!

Well done op. Great news

Keke94LND · 18/10/2021 14:49

I feel you OP, I am gonna struggle with this too.. last time I asked to leave half an hour early so I could go to a doctors appointment (to have a smear test) my boss told me I need to make sure I make all future appointments not during work hours, and then asked me what my appointment was for 🤦🏼‍♀️

Say you have Covid symptoms? Go for interview and get a Covid test same day so you have proof you went for a test and are negative. Your employer sounds so inflexible and unreasonable, you need to get creative.

Congratulations! Can't believe all the hoops you have to jump through to have a day off in your current place.

I really wish we wouldn't have to be in a position where we have to fibb to get a day off....god forbid we want to leave our shitty jobs or whatever other reason....
Most employers don't care they're only enforcing whatever laws are statutory... If they had it their way we wouldn't have half the privileges we do... It's bizarre how loyal (emotionally) some people are on here....'it's so wrong to be dishonesty about taking a day off' ...well if they hadn't lied to me about a number of things to do with the job spec/company/etc I wouldn't be in this position!

My workplace is pretty inflexible about interviews because they do them in a batch. They're so slow at getting approvals and have to keep positions open for 21 days so when they finally shortlist the departments are struggling and they're desperate to interview. When I applied there was a notes section in the application where I put that I needed 7 days notice for interviews. They still asked if I could do 6 days notice but when I said no they rearranged for day 7. Thought I'd stuffed up my chances but it worked out ok.
