Not to phone the doctors?

DD is two years old, around 12 weeks ago I took her to a&e because she was struggling to breath, drawing in at the ribs, coughing a lot and slight temp. We were told it was just a viral infection and she was fine, just to keep fluids up etc.
Since then she's had a night cough, some nights are worse than others and it's far worse when she's got a cold, like just now, and she coughs when she's been running around a lot.
Because of this I've been keeping a diary and was intending on getting her checked for asthma as it runs in the family.
Last night she was up for around an hour coughing every few seconds and couldn't settle, she's got a stinking cold and is really phlegmy so it's made the cough worse.
DH wants me to call the doctor and get her seen. She has no temp, is eating and drinking fine and is generally fine in herself.
Aibu to not call? I feel like they're just going to tell me it's just a cold/viral again so it's pointless.

If dh wants her seen at the doctor's why doesn't he call them then?

DamnUserName21 · 11/10/2021 13:49

Likely is viral but I do think a GP should listen to her chest.
Also, sounds like she's benefit from an inhaler prescription to relieve symptoms.

I would wait for the cold/ flu to go then get an appointment for asthma check.

FlatteredFool · 11/10/2021 13:51

Could be asthma, could be covid, could be flu, could be bronchiolitis. Why wouldn't you get her seen? She needs assessing. Children can become very quickly and seriously ill with breathing difficulties.

EnjoyingTheArmoire · 11/10/2021 13:54

Get her seen.

It'll help the drs build a picture if/when it comes to an asthma diagnosis (assuming nothing has changed in the last decade) IME.

gogginsmrs · 11/10/2021 14:15

I’d get her seen too. You have kept a diary you can show too. All three of mine have asthma - middle one quite severely- and it’s surprising how quickly a situation can change. If she does have asthma it would be good to get her on treatment before winter when all sorts of respiratory viruses can take hold. Doctors will never think you are wasting their time when it comes to breathing issues

TyrannosaurusSexmatters · 11/10/2021 14:17

She is 2. Get her seen

jaqueinthebox · 11/10/2021 14:53

Thanks for your replies, seems I am being unreasonable so I will phone them first thing, I just didn't want to be wasting anyone's time when to me it seems like it's just a cold.
It's not covid she's been tested and is negative.

They won’t diagnose asthma in a child that young but will probably prescribe an inhaler to ease symptoms. I had a similar thing with DS, ended up in A&E because we couldn’t get a GP appointment and he was wheezing badly. They gave him a Ventolin inhaler and he improved rapidly.

621CustardCream438 · 11/10/2021 15:47

She may very well need an inhaler- one of mine had a persistent night cough following a severe episode of what was called viral wheeze at the time. After a few more episodes he was later diagnosed with asthma, given blue and brown inhalers and been fine since following asthma nurse instructions.

gogginsmrs · 11/10/2021 15:59

Actually two of mine were diagnosed under the age of two but we did have a family history of it. I hope your little one is better very soon OP x

bloodywhitecat · 11/10/2021 16:20

She's two and can't tell you how she feels, as an adult I know how rough untreated or poorly controlled asthma feels and I would not hesitate to get her seen ASAP.
