To think nobody asks influencers these things

I follow a few influencers on Instagram, mainly ones I have followed for years because I used to enjoy their content and I was naive to the fact that they're getting lots of free stuff and pretending that life is great. I don't enjoy them now, I really need to unfollow them. But all of these 'for those that were asking this is where I got my jacket' etc etc, who actually asks? Does anybody? Or is it the influencers themselves just trying to flog stuff?

Sounds like MrsMeldrum. No one ever asks but she puts a helpful swipe up to everything with the website carefully hidden so you could never look without her getting her cut. She is probably the most vacuous person on Instagram though.

I do insta and YouTube. I get asked all the time Where's so and so from. What's my fave blah blah

"A lot of people have been asking about my skincare routine" - no, no they haven't.

Today I saw a good one, its world mental health day and they said "a lot of people have been asking me to share my mental health story" - have the really?

It's not actually Mrs M, I unfollowed her after she made reference to a famous rally driver, without realising he died in a crash along with children. Then posted a picture of herself smiling and posing next to the caption 'oh oops, didn't know he died in a crash, awful' or something like that Confused she doesn't read the room very well and I don't find her relatable atall.

I'm what you might call an influencer. I don't like to call myself though - I say I work in affiliate marketing which is true.

I have 200k followers so I'm not particularly huge or anything. And to answer a previous question, in the early days, I would approach brands. Once you gain followers and engagement though, the doors open and now I don't need to contact brands. As to what I earn .. we'll, I'm not going to divulge that but suffice to say, I do it full time.

And yes, it's true that people will ping you messages asking where you got something from. What isn't true though is when they do a 'Q&A' box and say ' let's chat! Ask me something!' And then they just make up the questions in order to be able to steer followers to certain links etc

I always declare adverts properly and I'm very upfront from the get go that what people are reading is an advert if that's what it is

I don’t follow many influencers, much more houses, gardens and cooking, but I have asked on the odd occasion if I have really liked something that someone is wearing. Generally though it has just been because it was a nice outfit and it is often not something that they were flogging.
Thanks for your insight CrystalBird - an interesting read.
