To report my mums neighbours dog?

My mum lives in a house which shares a small, enclosed-paved area back yard. Her neighbour has a large dog which is free to roam in the area although the neighbour usually stands and watch’s dog, neighbour has no control and the dog doesn’t answer.

Problem is whenever my mum or anyone try to leave her back dog the dog goes berserk. On many occasions I have just had to close the door and wait for it to be taken away. It bounds to the door barking & growling and jumping up on the back door. I have tried several times to speak to the owner but she doesn’t seem to care.

The dog had also done the same thing to me at the front of the house as well.

Effectively we can not freely walk out the back door without checking out of the window. I’ve been caught out a few times and either had to run back in or wait in the shed.

I’m not sure whether the dog will bite, I don’t hang around long enough. But AIBU to report the owner to local authority?

Definitely report!

If rented report to landlord or housing association too.

Get hold of the owners number, send her a firm but steady message not on Whatsapp it's too easy to manipulate, via sms state there that you have had it with the situation tell her she has got 24/ 48 hours to take control off the situation if she fails to take action you will report her and have the dog taken away for good....when doing all of this please keep in mind it's not the dogs fault

Thank you both. It is a shame as it isn’t the dogs fault but the fault of the owner.

I’m apprehensive about the report as the neighbour is quite volatile but I think it’s the only way forward as she can’t just freely go to the bins etc.
