To think it’s probably better to stay in a job for a year or more?

The teaching job market appears to have been a bit peculiar this past year and a lot of people appear to have struggled to get jobs. (I know there will be some regional variations.)

Friend of mine managed to get a one year contract in June but isn’t keen and is looking for other jobs already. I could sort of understand if it was for permanent work but it’s other temp posts.

So - AIBU to think she’s best trying to see the year out then making a move? (It’s the distance she dislikes by the way rather than the actual job.)

Teacher resignations don't work quite the same as they do in the rest of the world. She will more than likely do the full year regardless of whether or not she wants to.

If she doesn't look for a job from now onwards (there won't be much advertised at the moment), she runs the risk of not having anything for September. Plenty of schools advertise for staff for the September as early as January each year. Doing so gives the full pick of new recruits in particular. Once it gets to May, everyone's got a job already. If she is tied to an area or distance because of childcare, it's even more important she keeps an eye out as early as possible.

Yeah, I know - I am a teacher Smile But while resignation dates are officially October 31, end of feb and May 31, people can and do go before and after. It’s at the Heads discretion.

Of course she needs to look for something next year but she is looking for something for THIS year!
