Why the men’s Christmas jumper is £10 cheaper than the woman’s? IT’S THE SAME JUMPER!

To ask Boden…

It’s fucking horrible!

everythingthelighttouches · 10/10/2021 23:01

I’m afraid that is because we are not the default human beings OP!

Reminds me of the Man Who Has it All on Facebook( worth a follow).

He reverses sexist stereotypes and when selling clothes always says
“Please note the men’s version is more expensive than the standard version”.

WomanStanleyWoman · 10/10/2021 23:07

It’s hideous.

doodlejump1980 · 11/10/2021 08:30

Agree with all the points above. (But aren’t all Christmas jumpers meant to be hideous?) and yes there’s no way I’m paying £95 for a Christmas jumper.
I messaged them, am awaiting their reply.
Incidentally, found a much nicer one on the jojo maman site. For £35. 😂

@Thomasina79

That’s bad, yes bring it to their attention.

In general with boden I try and wait till their sales. Sadly, as larger lady, I have to be quick on the mark as the larger sizes sell out v quickly.

Another question for boden. Why make so few large sizes they sell out, whereas the smaller sizes are still available for ages and eventually can be bought at a fraction of the price. Surely this is not business sense?

When you wear a brand you become an ambassador for it.

The brand knows that their clothes look better on smaller bodies.

This is why most high end designers don't make their clothes above a UK 12.

Blankspace4 · 11/10/2021 09:03

I agree - this is disgraceful. Let us know what they respond!

Ironically I don’t know ANY men who shop at Boden - only wives/partners who will maybe order for them at the same time as ordering for themselves.

So this would be very hard for them to get away with (quite rightly too!!)

Djifunrsn · 11/10/2021 09:09

I actually don’t think that if anyone is crazy enough to pay £85 for an ugly Christmas jumper, that paying £95 is much different. You would have to have enough bank notes to use as toilet paper to waste money like that.

Icecreamsoda99 · 11/10/2021 09:15

Yanbu!

BakeOffRewatch · 11/10/2021 09:24

Oooh I love the ones on jojo maman bebe, thank you for the recommendation! Though now I’m wondering if this was a stealth pr post. Which one did you get? I wish they did a cardigan version for kids though, getting jumpers on and off my baby is hard.

I had nothing to do today a trip there may be in order…

BakeOffRewatch · 11/10/2021 09:26

@Blankspace4 describing me exactly. It’s like I want Boden but can’t justify it for myself, so buy super cute stuff for baby and DH in sale.

Felyne · 11/10/2021 09:29

Literal pink tax. Women's version is pink, men's is blue. Ffs.

TyrannysaurusXXrightshoarder · 11/10/2021 09:30

The fabric content is different according to the descriptions, maybe that’s why.

TooMuchPaper · 11/10/2021 09:35

I would imagine this is correct. The women's one has 5% alpaca, one colour in the men's has 1% and the other colour has no alpaca.

HomeSliceKnowsBest · 11/10/2021 09:39

Are these UK made, hence the price? I believe some of their wonderfully British offerings are made in China. If this is cheap Chinese polyester tat (like the majority of Joules' fabulously British offerings, then YABVU to consider buying it! Get down Primark, they'll have oodles similar shite!

BarefootHippieChick · 11/10/2021 09:50

I used to love Boden kids clothes, but I noticed when I started buying from their teen range the materials and fabrics were awful for the price. No better than H&M or New Look. And as another poster pointed out, this traditionally British label manufactures half their clothes somewhere outside of Britain.

mustlovegin · 11/10/2021 14:53

traditionally British label

Their approach is wrong overall and they are shooting themselves in the foot.

The clothes seem overpriced, the pricing strategy is misogynistic and their choice of models is not diverse enough (it's very difficult to see how clothes would look on someone with a different complexion or hair colour than those on their pictures)

Thecurliestwurly · 11/10/2021 16:22

Why on earth would you spend that sort of money on a jumper you wear a few times a year? Are there drugs sewn into it somewhere?

Either buy the men's, or go to a shop that isn't hell-bent on ripping you off. Similar jumper designs can be found elsewhere for much cheaper if you are watching the pennies.

Thecurliestwurly · 11/10/2021 16:30

I know these brands do have a certain market, but I've never understood the kids clothes over a certain age - the 7 year old clothes look the same as the baby clothes - covered in stars and rainbows. My six year son old would no way wear a rainbow! They look well made, but the designs are a bit young for older kids and are designed to scream "I am this more expensive brand!!" . They all have similar patterns.

I suppose if you have got it, flaunt it. 🤷

Pottedpalm · 11/10/2021 17:00

@FrozenoutofCostco

Boden clothes are dreadful! They fade after one single wash (Fairy Non-Bio 30 degrees)
You have been very unlucky, I have never experienced this.

I totally agree with this. I was looking at Joules for my 10 year old DD. Lovey items but she’s starting to want to dress a bit older now and unicorns/stars etc aren’t going to cut it.
JaninaDuszejko · 11/10/2021 17:31

This is not the first time they've done this. A couple of years ago DD1 wanted a flannel shirt. The Boden boys shirt was 100% cotton, the girl's shirt in exactly the same pattern was 100% viscose and more expensive. We bought the boys shirt.

Actually, when she was little we bought a few zippered hoodies from the boys section of NEXT because they were cozier than the ones in the girls section. But at least NEXT didn't charge any more.

Tealightsandd · 11/10/2021 17:35

It's guaranteed if it's drawn to their attention, they'll raise the price of the mens's instead of lowering the women's.

Just buy the men's and save some money.

mustlovegin · 11/10/2021 17:41

Just buy the men's and save some money

Or just don't by anything at all

lisaandalan · 11/10/2021 18:55

Same as @MrsFin

I'd ask them why this is. X
