Things your OH loves that you refuse to cook

Inspired by the other thread on deciding what to cook forever, my DH LOVES liver (maybe with a bit of bacon and onion thrown in) but it’s 🤮 as far as I’m concerned so would NEVER serve it for dinner.

You?

I refuse to cook his disgusting cream cheese pasta concoction, or scrambled eggs the way he likes them (with ridiculous amounts of Maggi liquid seasoning added).

Slightly more pedestrian - salmon. I wish I liked it, but I can't bear the taste and cooking it makes me feel ill.

stillcrazyafterall · 08/10/2021 21:27

Stuffed marrow. He made it for me when we were dating and I ate it to be polite. Recently made a woman laugh in supermarket when he said
'I could do stuffed marrow?'
'I don't like stuffed marrow'
'You ate when we were going out'
'Yes, but we're married now and I don't have to' Grin

Hoppinggreen · 08/10/2021 21:27

@2lsinllama

Anything with peppers. He loves them but I’m allergic.
I have never met anyone else who is allergic to peppers. Can I ask what they do to you? I get very bloated with awful stomach cramps for about 24 hours and then a painful stomach for a few days after that
RobertaFirmino · 08/10/2021 21:29

Another vote for lamb. DH loves it, I cannot bear the stench. The only cooking smell which is worse is a simmering chicken carcass.

handsanitiser · 08/10/2021 21:30

Gravy made with Bisto granules, bleagh

MinnieMountain · 08/10/2021 21:31

Nothing but I can only rarely make kedgeree as DH hates the smell of fish cooking (especially poached).

SisterAgatha · 08/10/2021 21:31

DH doesn’t cook so he eats what he’s given. If he wants something special he can knock himself out

2lsinllama · 08/10/2021 21:33

@Hoppinggreen
Yes - terrible cramps and gas.
Apparently it’s because I don’t have the enzymes needed to digest them, similar to someone who can’t have dairy due to being lactose intolerant.
I actually like the taste but it’s not worth the after effects.

mynameisbrian · 08/10/2021 21:50

liver and bacon over here too

idontlikealdi · 08/10/2021 21:58

Fish
Lamb

He cooks it for himself when I'm out. I still haven't forgiven my FIL for microwaving kippers when I had morning sickness, I had to leave the house.

I really like them too and about once a year I give them a go, usually when I order something with them in by accident or DH orders something and it looks nice. I think “how bad can it be?”
And about 10 minutes later I find out and vow never again!!

AliceMcK · 08/10/2021 22:08

My DH likes liver, kidneys etc… I’d cook them if I was trying to be nice to him. I will buy him ready meals with them in or steak and kidney puddings or pies. I usually do it if I’m going away so he can have them when I’m not around 😆

It’s far worse the other way round, he won’t make me custard, rice pudding or put beetroot on any of my food.

NorthernSoul55 · 08/10/2021 22:10

Kippers. OH cooks them for himself but only on condition that I'm out of the house when he does and there is no trace of them when I come back.

cakeforthewin · 08/10/2021 22:54

Mackerel
Whitebait 🤮

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 08/10/2021 23:42

The one thing I won’t “cook” for anyone (although obviously it’s not really cooking) is Heinz tomato soup, or anything resembling it.

I can’t bear the smell, so won’t even open a tin.

DramaAlpaca · 08/10/2021 23:50

Fish. I can't stand the look, smell or taste of it.

Pinkchocolate · 08/10/2021 23:53

Exactly this. The smell and texture make me gag.
ASeriesOfTubes · 09/10/2021 00:24

Well, bugger me with a fishfork, who knew lamb was so controversial?

There's nothing so far I'd refuse to cook but DP hates kidney beans, so chilli con carne is a no-go Sad

Lachimolala · 09/10/2021 00:51

Lamb and liver for me too.

Also as PP said Heinz tomato soup, smells like rusty vomit to me 🤢

Also not cooking exactly but salad cream, can’t have it in the house the smell makes me heave.

DilemmaDelilah · 09/10/2021 09:29

Lamb, dumplings and chilli. He has to cook those for himself. Lots of other things I don't cook either but that's because neither of us like them. We both like liver though!

Rabblesthecat · 09/10/2021 09:33

We’re the opposite. I’ll eat almost anything except onions and that’s only since I had covid.

He is fussy. Very plain and traditional. Just like a child I ask him to try one new thing a week and if he doesn’t like it he’ll never have to try it again.

We’ve had some successes but mainly failures

If we go out for a meal he Will always order one of

Prawn cocktail
Soup
Lasagne and chips
Steak
Mixed grill
Fish and chips
Curry and rice
Lemon chicken and rice

His argument is he knows he likes them and he doesn’t want to to waste money ordering something he may not like. We can afford to make mistakes but he remembers the days when he couldn’t

ScottChegg · 09/10/2021 09:46

We are the other way round here too. The one thing that is verboten to be cooked in this house is bacon because DH finds the smell absolutely nauseating for some reason. I even tried cooking it on a gas ring in the garden before he was up but then he complained the neighbours were cooking it!

I just go to Subway now when I want it and get a mega melt. Yum.

Aprilx · 09/10/2021 09:47

Peas. It allowed in my house, although he sometimes buys a small pot of mushy peas if we have a chippy meal.

pickingdaisies · 09/10/2021 09:54

Anchovies. He loves them on a pizza. I stay out of the way until it's cooked, eaten, and washed up. Then I come into the kitchen and wash the sink because I can STILL smell them ( he claims I'm making it up at this point - I'm not)

PunkrockerGirl59 · 09/10/2021 10:10

Liver
Black pudding
Beetroot (work of the devil) Sad
