AIBU to talk to GP about this?

For as long as I can remember, my 19 months old stools have been loose and mushy. They’re not pure liquid but he’s never done a solid poo, they’re also really big mushy ones (sorry for TMI). As far as I was aware he didn’t have any allergies or anything. He seems fine in every other way? Is this a normal thing? Would I be unreasonable to book a GP appointment over this seeing as there’s nothing else wrong with him?

To TMI you right back, are you looking at them straight away or only seeing them after he’s sat on them in his nappy?

FusciasBright21 · 08/10/2021 21:01

Also what is his diet like? Lots of fruit and veg? And is he generally happy in himself?

My son has been similar for many months. My DM said that my DB was the same as a toddler and was told that it's just toddler diarrhoea and there's not much can be done.
If you're worried he's dehydrated then speak to a GP but my DS has many very soggy nappies too.

My son’s stools were always very mushy 🤢 When he first started playgroup they sent him home after seeing one, assuming he must have a tummy bug… a couple of weeks later they said that actually they didn’t think there had been anything wrong because all his poos were like that, and it’s just normal for him! Now he’s potty trained, and they’re pretty standard looking. My daughter’s were also pretty mushy. My kids eat a lot of fruit and veg!

You should go to the GP if you are worried, but it’s fairly normal.

Thank you all!

He has veg with his dinner always, and has 3 different fruits in the day. A normal day would be:

Bottle of full fat cows milk
Weetabix/shreddies with a handful of fruit (one strawberry and 3 blueberries)
Half a banana for morning snack
Scrambled eggs on toast, beans on toast, peanut butter and cinnamon on toast, cheese sandwich for lunch with the other half of the banana and a few veg sticks
Biscotti biscuit for afternoon snack sometimes
Dinner is salmon, veg and sweet potato, or dish fingers waffles and veg or beans sometimes, homemade pizza wrap, sweet jacket potatoes with tuna and cheese
Yoghurt for dessert
Bottle of cows milk before bed again

I don’t think it’s anything in his diet as otherwise he seems fine, no rashes, no vomiting (he did have reflux as a baby which improved once I weaned him although if he laughs too much straight after food now you can hear his food coming up as if he’s about he be sick and he hiccups loads )

I am a FTM so not really sure. Perhaps this could be normal for him as they’ve kind of always been like this since I weaned him.

Yes but my DD’s were the same. But look, you know your son, if you’re really worried, then do get him checked out.

Mamacita191 · 08/10/2021 21:14

Also I don’t think he’s dehydrated. He always drinks the 2 bottles of milk. But now coming into the colder days sometimes he will take one sip of water the whole day, even with meals. But he has wet nappies so I assume he’s still getting the fluids he needs from his milk/food regardless of his water intake in the day (some days he has quite a bit tho)

I think this is my FTM brain working overtime as per usual by the sounds of it. :/

Hi op - please google toddler diarrhoea - my friends son suffered from this, it might put your mind at rest but of course go to GP - you as mum know best.
