Are you back in the office?

Is everyone back at the office now? And how is that? Any signs you might have to work remotely again, especially if your kids are out of school again? Any of you - like me - still working remotely?

I know I will get a few comments along the lines of “I was always in - not for me lounging at home!”, so am aiming the question more at those that worked at home/are still working at home.

I'm still wfh.

My manager wants us to stay wfh permanently.
Her manager wants us doing a hybrid.
And HER manager wants us wfh.
The 3 of them have been arguing about it for over a year now and still no agreed on anything. I'm happy staying as I am though. I save so much time not having to commute every day. Plus my boss turns a blind eye to me working while the dcs are home, as long as I get the work done, so I've saved loads in wraparound care and the dcs are happy they don't have to get up early for breakfast club!

Deereamer · 08/10/2021 20:30

We are doing 2 days in the office and 3 days at home. We are on a rota system so we don’t have everyone in at once as if there was a covid outbreak we would struggle to keep on top of things if multiple people were off at the same time. In all honestly I’d prefer to be based at home permanently but I don’t think it will happen.

HundredMilesAnHour · 08/10/2021 20:32

I've been back in 2-3 days a week since early August. When restrictions were relaxed on 15 Sept, they also relaxed restrictions on our office seating (so all desks now in use whereas before, no-one could sit next to you or opposite you). Within a few days of that happening, I caught Covid at work. Still recovering now. Not best pleased.

StripeyBadger · 08/10/2021 20:34

@IsDaveThere

I went in to the office for the first day since March 2020 this week. It was the highest waste of time. Barely anyone else there, horrific commute and much less work done due to distractions

^^This with bells on.

Plus those that were there said they spent the entire time chatting with each other to catch up. Such a huge waste of time!

We are technically still wfh (so is DH) but there has been talk of us going back for the odd day before Christmas.

immersivereader · 08/10/2021 20:35

No thank god. Still wfh. Earliest date to return is April 2022. Long may it continue!

suckingonchillidogs · 08/10/2021 20:35

Back in 2 or 3 days a week, perfect balance I think. Feel like I've got my sanity back!

Tohaveandtohold · 08/10/2021 20:35

It’ll be my first day back next week Friday. And it’ll be one day a week for the year.
They plan on increasing it to 2 days a week (or 40% of your working hours) at some point next year though we don’t know when that will be but they are totally embracing flexible working which I love.

jagoda · 08/10/2021 20:38

No we are all still wfh and loving it. No plans to reopen offices and in fact looks like they are going to be sold off so we will be wfh permanently with any luck.

Aside from those who already wfh or who were key workers, other friends and family are all still wfh aside from one friend who is doing hybrid working, so she does 2 days in office week 1 and 3 days in office week 2. She prefers that as she is much more sociable than me Grin

JesusIsAnyNameFree · 08/10/2021 20:39

3 days in, 2 days home. Absolute bullshit going in. Nothing is face to face. We all drive in and remain at our desks.

Giving them less of my time. If they want to make me commute for no reason, I won't be doing so many long days. Cunts.

GloriaSilver · 08/10/2021 20:43

I never left. No adjustments other than masks. Incredulous that people still aren’t back.

JoborPlay · 08/10/2021 20:44

We have the choice. I'd say we're in the office 80% of the time, which I'm quite surprised at as we have to wear masks all of the time and can WFH as much as we like.

JoborPlay · 08/10/2021 20:45

But DHs team have recently been allowed back, but again have the choice and most people are there around 20-40% of the time and they don't have to have masks.

myadhdusername · 08/10/2021 20:45

50/50 hybrid here

Myusernameisnotmyusernameno · 08/10/2021 20:45

We went back this week. One day a week for now working up to 3 days. I'm surprised to say I really enjoyed it.

ragged · 08/10/2021 20:46

Officially we're WFH...
unofficially I believe many are in or hybrid.

For various reasons I'm mostly not in... but planning a day in office next week. Exciting!

LST · 08/10/2021 20:47

Still ft wfh here. The office has been ripped out to make it hybrid but I won't need to go in if I don't need to. I love it.

DrWhoNowww · 08/10/2021 20:50

@GloriaSilver

I never left. No adjustments other than masks. Incredulous that people still aren’t back.
I do hope you don’t work in a position where reading comprehension is important Confused

We’re hybrid, one day a week where everyone goes in and sits on teams meetings with other departments because they’re not in that day Hmm

It’s incredibly pointless.

RockaLock · 08/10/2021 20:51

We're technically all back in the office, and have been for about 3 weeks.

But, as we're a tiny company (12) and as everyone is allowed to work 1 day a week at home, then there has only been about 4 people in the office at any one time.

Whilst I like being in the office, as wfh was a nightmare for me, the atmosphere in the office is crap and empty and we don't feel like the strong team that we used to be.

I think our company need to change to an "everyone wfh on (eg) monday and the office will be closed that day" so that everyone gets their day at home, but also so we have a full team in the office on the other days.

GloriaSilver · 08/10/2021 20:54

I do actually. Quite tired and didn’t fully read the OP. Hope pulling me up on that made your day. Sad.

Osrie · 08/10/2021 20:56

@Xiaoxiong

Since the beginning of September I'm in 2 days in the office, 3 at home and interestingly we are all clustering around tues and thurs so we can see each other. No point in coming in to an empty office!

I'm loving the change of scene and socialisation Grin

CovidinPrimary · 08/10/2021 20:56

It’s so funny when I see people moan about the WFH Lot on here, we only expect the 800 or so serviced based / customer facing people to be in the office once a week (to take feedback face to face on their service levels)

Every single productivity measure has gone up, and we are dragging staff in for feedback where there is none to give!

Francescaisstressed · 08/10/2021 20:56

Still working from hold and been told no return this year, looking at April time next year....dreading it

JesusIsAnyNameFree · 08/10/2021 20:58

@RockaLock

See, that's what we do but as everything is on Teams as we have people from several different countries joining most of the meetings it seems ridiculously pointless to sit there sharing possible Covid. I honestly think the boss is hellbent on us all getting it. Quote "It's just the flu".

eurochick · 08/10/2021 21:00

We've moved to a hybrid model of 2-3 days per week in the office, with one of those being a day when everyone is in.

I quite like the day when everyone is in to see people face to face. The level of interaction and engagement is different to a Teams meeting. But the other days in the office feel pointless and the time spent sitting on a shitty train feels more pointless than ever. I get far more done at home without distractions. And my broadband is faster, despite working in a big flashy office block right in the middle of the City. My ideal would be to just go in for the day we are all in and events.

DriftingBlue · 08/10/2021 21:05

I always worked from home. My coworkers who were in the office before Covid now have the option to go to the office, but managers are not allowed to require physical office presence even for meetings.
