Holes in t-thirts..why???

Mikki77 · 08/10/2021 14:50

WHY do ally cotton t-shirts have tiny holes in? I don't wear belts so it's not that.
One friend swears it's moths the other says its biological washing tablets???

What is it and how do I stop it?

As someone has already suggested, it's a bra thing. Make sure that they're done up before you put them in (or of course hand-wash them but....)

MuddlingThrough1724 · 08/10/2021 17:16

I read using too much laundry detergent and/or over filling the washing machine can cause this.

Stripey3000 · 08/10/2021 19:51

If you wash your bras in the same load as the t-shirts, it's probably the hooks on the bras. If you do them up before popping them in the wash it should solve the problem.

Notimeforaname · 08/10/2021 19:59

It only happened to my clothes at a time I lived in a house with a dryer.
So I'm saying dryer 🤷‍♀️

I think it’s worktops and jeans buttons and that’s why the holes always appear in the same place. I started tucking tshirts in at the front when I read that on here and now have some newer tshirts that have remained unholy.

Bayleaf25 · 08/10/2021 21:10

But the hooks on bra thing doesn’t figure either as the holes are always in the same place 🤷‍♀️

Mine are usually holey due to burns - small ones from sparks and larger ones when I've managed, yet again, to set myself on fire.

Looubylou · 08/10/2021 23:24

I concluded I was catching t shirt in zip of jacket - most other explanations suggested here don't account for the holes being in the same place on every t shirt

Enough4me · 08/10/2021 23:31

I don't have this issue, get good wearing out of mine, DP (who is bigger and uses belts) and DC clothes. Often have a full load and wash on fast spin and tumble. Unless there is something catching in your machine I'd be surprised is spinning clothes causes holes. Do you have a rough area in your wardrobe or, has been suggested, a rough kitchen worktop?

goodjoujou · 09/10/2021 09:09

Like others have said kitchen worktops. I had this a few years back when we had corian worktops (manmade stone). The worktop felt perfectly smooth to touch but caused holes in all my tees. Apparently it’s a thing!

MrsClatterbuck · 09/10/2021 09:36

I had this with tshirts belonging to DH but it was only a certain tshirt of which he had about four
of but different colours. We have moved house and I have noticed it on one of my tshirts but only one the rest are fine. Dh tshirts are ok for now

Maray1967 · 09/10/2021 13:13

Can’t be moths here as the few cashmere things I have are fine. I was told that it was caused by the washing machine, possibly if you overfill the machine. I always hook up bras and zip up he’s s etc. I got one on a brand new top once - I would have done a little mend but it was right on the front - very noticeable.
