What if you were allergic to coca colas secret ingredient?

Apparently you could be allergic to just about anything.
So, what if you were allergic to a top secret ingredient?
Would the doctors, nurses, patient, family and friends all be sworn to secrecy?
Would they be given NDA’s to sign?
What does everyone else think?

They don't tell you.

DP is allergic to something in Dr Pepper. He doesn't know what because they don't tell. So he might come into contact with it somewhere else, rather than be able to ensure he doesn't.

Agree, they wouldn’t tell you. I watched a documentary called Stink a while ago and one of the people featured was a teenage boy who was allergic to something in the fragrance of Lynx deodorant (or Axe as it’s called in the USA where this poor boy was) and his mother actually had to pull him out of school because they wouldn’t tell him what specifically he was allergic to and in a high school there was too much exposure to it.

That’s very interesting.
I wonder what would happen @NeverDropYourMooncup if your DP had an allergic reaction to something else and that way he discovered the secret ingredient in Dr Pepper? 🧐 What would happen then?

Coca Cola gives me migraines so I stopped drinking it years ago, if I knew what was the cause then I would remove that ingredient but that might take away It's taste 🤷‍♀️

JasonMomoasgirlfriend · 08/10/2021 10:11

I thought all ingredients have to be labelled now?
Although I know "perfume" could mean anything so is that similar to something they write on the can that is like a mix of stuff?

JasonMomoasgirlfriend · 08/10/2021 10:12

To me "top secret" sound alike they know it's horrific for you so call it secret and everyone thinks it's exciting. But reality is if we knew, no one would drink it.

But also how does the FDA approve coke if they don't know what's in it?

JuneOsborne · 08/10/2021 10:16

Legally, in the UK, they only need to label any of the 14 allergens. You can have upto 2% of the ingredients not listed (unless it's an allergen).

So they wouldn't tell you.

JasonMomoasgirlfriend · 08/10/2021 10:36

Ah!

BillMasheen · 08/10/2021 10:40

People have worked out what is likely to be in Coca Cola though

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenCola_(drink)

So you could narrow it down by ruling out any of the ingredients on that link.

TuftyMarmoset · 08/10/2021 11:03

I think ‘flavouring’ is the food-equivalent get-out of ‘fragrance’, @JasonMomoasgirlfriend. They don’t have to tell you what the flavouring is. It’s a huge pain for people even without allergies but with dietary requirements like vegetarians, Muslims etc.

TiddleTaddleTat · 08/10/2021 12:00

Interesting Bill I've always thought holy basil (tulsi) tea is absolutely like Coca Cola and simply must be the secret ingredient.
Sorry, off topic ...

user1745 · 08/10/2021 13:07

I don't think they have to specify all flavourings on the label. I looked it up after a supermarket refused to tell me what the "natural flavourings" were in their sparkling water. I have a bad reaction to some fruits so needed to know, but I suppose I just won't drink that water if they can't tell me.
