To wonder what is going on with Hermes deliveries notifications?

I was expecting a delivery from TKMaxx. Yesterday I had three emails in a row from Hermes saying they'd got my package and would be delivering it on Sunday. This morning I got three texts within the space of two minutes saying they'd be delivering today between one and three pm. Hadn't delivered [as far as I was aware] by 3.20. Went on-line to see if there'd been an update. Said the delivery had been made at 1.40pm to my address. It gave a link to show 'proof of receipt'. I clicked on it and there was a photo of three large packages outside my front door. The problem is although I was at home all that time nobody knocked or rang doorbell, and packages outside my front door are clearly visible from the front road. Luckily they were still there.

Now, as I've logged on to the internet again, I see I've had eight emails in a row telling me my package has been delivered [I know]. Has anybody else had this with Hermes? In this particular case the delivery was quite high value, and it bothers me that they'd dumped it on the doorstep whilst people were at home.

Considering the amount of companies where Hermes is the default service, it's not surprising the service then isn't great. I wouldn't automatically seek to blame the driver, they'll be over worked and have targets (probabably unrealistic targets) to meet.

I know that doesn't make it ok, but I'd question why a PP is having clashes with delivery drivers, it's probably not hugely fun for them.

ACNHMAMA · 08/10/2021 07:06

If depends on the courier. I have one who is great who sends one message. Another one is clearly inept and scans everything 50 million times because I get 50 million messages about everything.

whycantwegoonasthree · 08/10/2021 07:28

'You weren't at home.'
I was. And my office is right next to the front door.
'Left your parcel in your porch'
I don't have a porch.
'Your parcel has been delivered.'
No it hasn't.

One or all of the above. Every. Single. Time.

I no longer order from companies I know use Hermes and don't give me another option.

FedUpAtHomeTroels · 08/10/2021 13:27

My parcel turned up today, in my porch. followed by another email to say they'd delivered, so no complaints from me.

eleanoreleanoreleanor · 08/10/2021 14:56

Hermes had 3 parcels for me in the last month.

One arrived on time. I was amazed. Unfortunately it was damaged and I had to get a replacement sent out.

One said it was out for delivery, then at the time of delivery, messaged saying there was a problem and they would update me the next day. I heard nothing for 10 days and then the parcel finally arrived with no warning (I'm guessing maybe the driver had to isolate and had all the parcels with them?)

The last one also said there was a 'problem' then again nothing for over a week. The only communication I have had since is an email from the company I ordered from saying they were refunding me 'as I requested'. I'm most annoyed about this one as I didn't bloody request a refund!

My heart sinks every time a company attempts to send anything by Hermes!

BarbedButterfly · 08/10/2021 15:06

I ordered from TK Maxx on 28th September and have had about 8 emails from Hermes saying there a delay and now no idea what is happening.

Gilmoregale · 08/10/2021 15:11

%Stellaris22 Haven't you ever had a personality clash with anyone?! particular driver in question used to stuff our parcels in our neighbour's shed on a regular basis despite having been asked not to, both in person and via the feedback system, numerous times. Even when we were actually sitting in the garden or hanging out washing. They were also very aggressive towards one of our cats, who was only a kitten at the start of Lockdown, just to name a couple of examples. They also never left delivery cards. For the record, my partner also delivered briefly for one of the companies, and I have every sympathy

Gilmoregale · 08/10/2021 15:13

for the drivers. It's only this courier. And for the record, it isn't only me who's had issues with them (we live in a block of four flats, converted from an old Victorian building). I let this behaviour slide for months, as I kept making allowances, until the day they almost kicked the younger cat and I put a formal complaint in. I'd rather go to the depot or a collection point and pick up parcels but not every company offers this unfortunately.

newnameday · 08/10/2021 15:17

Hermes are rubbish. They won't use doorbell. They knock and barely try (almost missed a collection) so it's quiet and one brief attempt. and they enter your home without permission.

Best thing to do is contact the company that paid them to deliver, tell them the issues and your disappointment in their courier.

Eventually companies will hopefully stop using them or they will ensure their couriers act like couriers!

Gilmoregale · 08/10/2021 15:20

Oh, and ironically, they've not been QUITE so bad since the formal complaint. Have also seen the same courier wandering about in the middle of the road where we live, pretty much oblivious to any actual vehicles on said road. There's plenty of room on the pavements on either side and parking isn't that bad unless there's a massive event on at the beach. The other Hermes courier is brilliant; the couriers for the other companies are a mix, some are great, others not so much.

MissLC · 08/10/2021 15:21

No issues with the actual delivery but I had 6 emails and 8 texts yesterday confirming my delivery between 1 and 3. Parcel showed up at 5.45...

underneaththeash · 08/10/2021 15:30

We did really well out of Hermes last week. DH and I were both working one day. DS (15) took in several parcels and then DD opening them all (as she'd ordered something).....
DH them came in - suspected I'd ordered a load of stuff and put the cardboard in the recycling - which was then collected.
I came in and saw the enormous pile of stuff - asked who the hell had ordered it......
We have a what's app group for the village, so managed to find the owner of two of the parcels but the rest of the contents are sitting next to the front door (apart from the slime ingredients which DD has used).
It's impossible to contact Hermes by phone or online without a tracking number. So we seem to have gained - a laminator (which I will use for Brownies), massive pile of make up, some 11+ books - which I can put on the community chat group and also a smoothie maker - which will be well used.
But - yes they're sh*t.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 08/10/2021 15:39

I had ten emails yesterday, telling me that my parcel was out for delivery and then that it would be with me between 1 & 3. The last five pinged through early evening when the dress I ordered from Joe Browns had been hanging in the wardrobe for a few hours.

Davros · 08/10/2021 16:09

I can't get stuff from M&S delivered any more because of Hermes, I usually collect from store and I'll just do that. I got multiple texts and emails telling me my parcel would be delivered between 2pm-4pm but the day before! All very bizarre. I've now remembered that I got a delivery from M&S a few months ago and was sent a photo bearing no resemblance to my home, had to get a refund

Stellaris22 · 08/10/2021 16:11

Gilmore that is awful and violence towards animals is never acceptable. Apologies and completely agree that driver is a very bad example.

I work in a supermarket and we offer a Hermes service, it's incredibly popular for collections and returns so I can only imagine how much busier delivery drivers are. I'm always thankful when a company uses Royal Mail as our postie is lovely and friendly.

CarlaH · 08/10/2021 16:15

Last few deliveries from a variety of operators nobody has rung the bell or knocked on the door.

I would guess that up to 80% are silent now so I just keep checking to see if stuff has arrived. Sometimes I hear the porch door open and close and look out to see the delivery driver walking away.

I know they are up against it but it really does only take a second to push the doorbell.

Gilmoregale · 08/10/2021 16:31

%Stellaris22 No problem - he's such a friendly little thing as well, the courier is pretty much the only person he encounters in his life who behaves like that. (Our posties are also lovely.)

We have thought about getting a box for deliveries to make it a bit easier on the couriers (we overlook the back garden and you have to walk a fair distance from the front gate to get to it, passing all the flats on the way) but when our neighbour had the (communal) lawnmower taken from their shed recently we're rethinking that for now...any suggestions for a decent box warmly welcomed!

I can only imagine how stressful working in retail has been over the last 18 months (not that it's a walk in the park under normal circumstances). I suspect it's just been so relentless - thank you.

dorothygaleandtoto · 08/10/2021 16:35

Hermes are a joke. I wish there was more transparency in which carrier a particular business uses before I place an order with them. If it was Hermes, I would find another business.
The other day I received a text at 12:47 to say that the delivery driver was on the way to me and would deliver between.... 10:00-12:00 that day. Sure enough, they'd been and gone.

Biancadelrioisback · 08/10/2021 16:36

Yes. I had 9 identical notifications yesterday about my parcel, all spaces about 10 mins apart. V annoying

Tal45 · 08/10/2021 16:36

Our Hermes deliveries have been good, had loads of emails too, not sure why. Yodel on the other hand were shit.

itsnotmeitsu · 08/10/2021 21:44

This is random, and completely paranoid > But if Hermes are operating like this in the current climate of massive shortages of delivery drivers: what's to stop drivers being signed up; dropping off packages; proving they've been delivered with a photograph of a door (even if the recipient has no idea their parcel has been dropped off); and then someone following to retrieve the parcels. How easy is it to prove your package has been stolen with Hermes?
