Is this normal?

My dad died of bowel cancer aged 48, I'm 30 now he died when I was 12. I've had pain and changes in my
Bowels.

I'm going for an urgent colonoscopy on Saturday but the lady who rang me to book it (bowel cancer nurse) asked me to have a CT scan tomorrow morning. Do I need to stay nbm for that? It's a CT of chest, abdomen and pelvis. Is this normal though? I expected the colonoscopy but not the ct scan, I'm also having a gastroscopy on Saturday before the colonoscopy.

Saturday is going to be fun. Should I be worried though?

Aibu to be shit scared no pun intended!

They're maybe keeping a closer eye on you with your dad having it so young. It's probably nothing. They're just making sure. Flowers

RandomMess · 06/10/2021 21:35

I have no idea about whether you need to be NBM

Can completely understand why you are scared Thanks

HeyYouGuuuuuuys · 06/10/2021 21:39

Thanks. I think I won't have breakfast just incase. I'm just so worried now it's ridiculous

Pretty sure with ct scan you don’t have to worry about whether or not you have a BM. Good luck

Thedishwasherstacker · 06/10/2021 21:51

I had to have an urgent ct scan (also chest, abdomen and pelvis with contrast also) a couple of years ago. They run me at 12pm and booked me in for 2pm the same day, I was petrified. I had eaten breakfast and lunch and they never mentioned nbm. I don’t think it’s an issue for ct scans.
I also had a gastroscope and colonoscopy a few weeksbefore that.
I’m sure they are just covering all grounds due to your family history, it’s good to know the NHS is there for us swiftly when we need it.
Good luck OP, I hope it goes well for you.

Blueeilidh · 06/10/2021 22:07

You shouldn't need to be nbm for a ct scan unless they have given specific instructions.

Blueeilidh · 06/10/2021 22:09

The colonoscopy will be looking at three inside of the intestine, the CT scan will look at surrounding areas I think

rainyskylight · 06/10/2021 22:11

My dad died of bowel cancer relatively young. My sister had some weird symptoms at 34. She flagged her history and they did an investigation just like this. It’s just to be safe. My sister just had a weird blip thing it was fine. You are most likely fine but it’s good to get checked out. Good luck.

SisforSoppy · 06/10/2021 22:15

You don’t need to be NBM for the CT (dr here).

HeyYouGuuuuuuys · 06/10/2021 22:22

@SisforSoppy thank you! I totally forgot to as this morning when she booked me in Blush

@HeyYouGuuuuuuys @rainyskylight @Thedishwasherstacker
Hey all, just wondering how you are all doing? How’s your sister rainyskylight? I had a similar scan and was so scared.
