To want to be investigated further

On Sunday I passed out due to severe abdominal cramps and was taken to hospital.

The doctor said it seems like Irritable Bowel Syndrome and I was prescribed morphine.I have never felt pain like it. The onset was very rapid.

Would anyone be able to decipher the results of the blood test carried out?

The numbers seem scary.

Have you been diagnosed with IBS before? Is this cramping the first instance of something like that happening?

My first instinct usually is to trust the doctors know what they're talking about, but that sounds like a rather violent reaction where you got to the point of passing out from the pain, I think I would actually want it to be investigated further too.

Sorry I don't have a clue what the numbers mean x

DH has passed out with pain like this before and has been diagnosed with IBS. It was wrong, he has an allergy to Sulphate which we've figured out by ourselves. If he avoids sulphates, he's fine.

I'd at least want them to rule out Coeliac.

When I felt like that I had a burst ovarian cyst, but I do have a history of that kind of thing
It could be so many things I agree they do need to investigate this ( I think)

I'd be more concerned about an ovarian cyst or such like. Though dh does suffer from intestinal colic pain from his ulcerative colitis that gives him unimaginable pain.

I had similar and it was discovered I had a burst ovarian cyst

Did they do a scan?

The U&E and VBG you’ve posted need interpreting in the context of the rest of your bloods and examination findings (which the doctor you saw will/should have had). Neither ring massive alarm bells, but there isn’t really much else anyone in here can say that’s more specific based on just them.

Starshapeddreams · 06/10/2021 20:03

It's hard to give advice on isolated numbers.
The reference ranges to the left are for an arterial blood sample, yours is clearly venous so the fact that they low/high when in context are not overly concerning - having not seen you or the rest of your bloods can't comment much further.
I imagine the doctors looking after you saw the bloods and used them as a tool when looking after you. Blood results are not the be all and end all of diagnosis.

Thanks for all the helpful replies.

Greybeardy a full blood count was done and showed a raised white count but my CRP was in normal range.

I think I'll keep an eye on things and if I experience any other episodes, I'll see my GP.

I've had pain like that with IBS. Felt like the end of labour, absolutely horrific.

RavingAnnie · 06/10/2021 22:01

IBS is a diagnosis of exclusion. They should be ruling everything else out before deciding on IBS.

That's how I understood it too.
