I'm aware it's all over youtube and social media so some may have heard of it that, even roblox have made a game on it 🙄

but I've heard of quite a few kids actually watching it, some parents held there hands at not checking when i was like, erm you may want to stop them its very disturbing

but some are fairly unbothered about it, im mean like 8,9,10 year olds!!!

I've seen it, i really enjoyed it but I'm in my 30s,my kids are absolutely not allowed to see it,
i wonder how many kids in my eldest year have watched it, (Y8)

AIBU to be shocked by this??

Sadly I’m not surprised. My Yr5 DD came home last week upset because an alarm had gone off in school and someone told her ‘Siren Head’ must be there. She didn’t know what it was but another child was able to tell her in fine detail. I had to Google it and was Confused that a 9 or 10 year old was allowed or even able to see something so horrible.

WheelieBinPrincess · 06/10/2021 17:49

Yeah I remember being shocked that a lot of younger kids had watched Battle Royale back in the day!

I shouldn’t be but I’m half inclined to be impressed that children of that age can stick with it, I am really enjoying it but finding it hard to stick with at times, lots of fairly boring bits.

MarshmallowSwede · 06/10/2021 17:49

I’m In the middle of watching it.. and it is not for chidlren! I have found it difficult to watch and had to take a break. It’s very intense and graphic. Way too much for a child. A teenager I would even question about them watching as it’s just that violent and graphic.

So parents are just letting kids watch anything these days? Interesting how these parents don’t see an issue letting their children watch something that is clearly made for adults.

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 06/10/2021 17:50

Lots of year 7s and 8s have recommended it to me this week 😔 I'm not into gruesome TV at the best of times.

HPandTheNeverEndingBedtime · 06/10/2021 17:53

@marshmallowswede I haven't watched it and won't be but I wouldn't say that it's obviously aimed at adults, the name and the image on Netflix is bright and looks 'fun' at first glance I thought it was a bit like Wipeout or the Floor is Lava show they had on last year.

CoalCraft · 06/10/2021 17:54

I honestly think adults are more sensitive to violence than kids. Certainly I find that sort of thing harder to watch now than when I was like 11. I doubt it'll do them any harm.

TheDrsDocMartens · 06/10/2021 17:54

Just asked my year 6 who said loads of her class have watched it.

Passmeamenuatthetottenham · 06/10/2021 17:58

Check out the thread linked above- lots of parents on there claiming they have allowed their 8/9/10/11 year olds to watch it, with one poster saying her 11 year old 'made' her let her watch it.

It's absolutely shit parenting.

HailAdrian · 06/10/2021 18:02

I wouldn't let my 10yo watch it but my 15yo enjoyed it. I expected it to be super graphic and violent after reading here that it is but I've seen way worse.

WyfOfBathe · 06/10/2021 18:03

I wouldn’t let mine watch it, but it doesn’t surprise me. Even when I was at school, people were watching 18 films at 11/12.

Rosesareyellow · 06/10/2021 18:11

YAB a bit U to be shocked - so many parents don’t give a shit about film certifications or game certifications for that matter. But it’s not ok.

PasstheBucket89 · 06/10/2021 18:11

although I will say some of the references like red light, green light could easily have been picked up just from social media,
not actual watching

I've glanced at that thread, some of the posts are just..... wow Shock

Netflix has a lot of absolutely graphic sex scenes.. so why isn’t a parent sitting there with the children watching if it’s not the Netflix kids?

I love horror films and squid game was even almost too much for me. As pp have said.. it is a bit shitty to just go ahead and allow them to watch a film.

It does look fun and colorful, but the warning titles in the corner it says violence, injury detail, sex, sexual violence etc… how can anyone mistake that for ok for kids is beyond me.

Bagelsandbrie · 06/10/2021 18:33

If a child clicks on squid game because it’s bright and colourful and doesn’t understand the age ratings then they shouldn’t be on a standard Netflix account. Netflix do a kids version.

Bagelsandbrie · 06/10/2021 18:33

*of Netflix, not squid game Grin

IveGotASongThatllGetOnYNerves · 06/10/2021 18:36

Yes, it's disturbing.
It just shows how desensitised society has become to violence (and porn for that matter) people who think it's ok for young children to watch such graphic violence have something wrong with them!

Scoobydooobydooooo · 06/10/2021 18:44

Me too!

Loveshelly · 06/10/2021 18:44

It’s mostly boring and not even that scary. I wouldn’t say it’s an 18
It’s a right of passage to watch that kind of thing as a youngster. It will do no harm.

Loveshelly · 06/10/2021 18:45

It’s nothing like watching porn
Get a grip Mary

Oh my god, you are just so cool and edgy, totally down with the kids....Hmm
Loveshelly · 06/10/2021 18:53

@Passmeamenuatthetottenham
Most of it was boring! As many people on this thread have said.
Almost 2 episodes of some idiot fucking up his life. Not a lot else.

I would imagine most kids fast forwarded it

PasstheBucket89 · 06/10/2021 18:56

its not porn there's one sex scene in a toilet

actually I was saying to DH, if this was American you can guarantee there would be some cringey love story between Gi-hun and San-baeyo (sp?) I'm glad they didn't,

My 9 and 11 year old asked me if they could watch it and have seen bits.

I'm not proud of it and dd9 has told people she hasn't seen it.

They also like IT.
