To ask how to improve my skills/ earning potential as an Administrator?

If you are an administrator, earning an okay amount (£25k+) have you done any additional courses/ quals?

I'm an administrator, I earn £22k which I can get by on (only because I'm married so have a joint income) I have thought about going back to uni and retraining but NOTHING appeals to me anymore and quite frankly, as lazy as it sounds, the thought of having to go back to uni aged 35, or spend 5-6 years completely re-training just exhausts me.

I'm fairly well educated (GCSE's, A-levels and a degree) I've always worked in administrative roles, I actually quite enjoy them, but I do wish I could earn a bit more.

Are there any specialised administrators on here that earn a bit more than me that could share what additional quals they have and what, if any would be worth me looking into getting? If needed I could spend a couple of grand gaining extra qualifications.

Another idea, if you actually enjoy admin, is to look at becoming a 'Document Controller' on construction sites. With experience can earn £40k. Most start off as site admins and train on the job.

On the PA/EA can’t I suggest you find a smaller company and step back temporarily to step forward. My friend worked as a PA in a medium to larger sized dental type practice and has now moved on to a big 4 EA role. It pays extraordinary well now.

I've moved in to HR and doing a qualification alongside it, paid for by the workplace, not earning loads at the moment but it's opening up a lot of potential for a career path. I too felt very stuck with just being a generic 'administrator'

I'd recommend the University sector. Loads of admin posts at many levels from £20 - £40K, and the higher reaches should be perfectly achievable for you as you already have a degree. Check out jobs.ac.uk.
University admin can be extremely varied - it's not all student-related either. An interest or experience in finance, financial management, business planning or similar will give you more options. I found the sector very supportive about expanding your options and giving opportunities - there always seemed to be new "centres" being set up, new projects and initiatives being launched (expanding access to disadvantaged children, local, national and international collaborations etc) all needing administered. Internal training and development is encouraged.
If you like organising, consider getting involved in Business Process Improvement or "Lean".

You can earn ok money as a document controller, which is sort of an admin role. I found it boring as sin though, but I know some people actually like it! 😂
