Hi all

Bub is 6 months, this showed up last Friday. He wakes up with it gone and it appears daily from about lunch time. He is rubbing his eyes and fussy. We’ve got an appt this week to get allergy tested and he’s on steroids from GP. We have two large dogs, could it be a late allergy to them? It’s spring here in Aus, grass possibly ? I’ve stopped foods for a few days but it’s still there. Would a dairy intolerance show this late? (He’s not having dairy but he’s breastfeeding and I am)

Hoping someone has maybe been through something similar? Cheers

Little bumps and now also on his legs.

He gets it the worst where he rubs his face... am preying it’s not our dogs.

I’ve no idea of the cause, sorry, but what an absolutely gorgeous boy!

Lovely pictures to wake up to (but of course I hope you have an answer soon).

Could it be heat rash?

Did the GP not try antihistamines? What does he do at lunch time? Like, do you have a routine where he plays outside, or has the opportunity to roll in the dogs bed kind of thing?

Looks like hives to me, so an allergic reaction. If he's old enough for piriton, I'd be trying the right dose of that tbh.

Poor mite, looks sore.

Yes looks like hives, an allergy to something but often difficult to pin point. Keeping a diary of it can be useful.

bogeythefungusman · 04/10/2021 05:59

Poor little chap. What gorgeous eyes. If it gets worse as the day goes on have you tried keeping the dogs away to see if it makes any difference?

Newmama93 · 04/10/2021 06:03

Thanks everyone !

The dogs are indoor dogs so their hair would be over everything I’m sure.. even though we don’t let them at his toys they’d be everywhere. He does also touch the dogs so whether he’s then rubbing his eyes and that makes it bad? I’m preying it’s not, I just don’t know what else it could be unless he’s developed some sort of allergy to something in my breast milk

I would say allergy

Glovesandscarf · 04/10/2021 06:32

What a lovely baby!
The rubbing itself can sometimes cause hive like areas. Is there any small biting insect that could be getting at him? I don’t know if you get midges in aus? Antihistamine seems a good bet to try tho.

My little girl has allergies to a number of foods and all animals - especially dogs/cats, looks like how hers did before we realised what triggered it.
Luckily we had no pets!

Can you seek a referral to the allergy team?
Has he started weaning yet?

He's a cutie btw! :)

rocklamp · 04/10/2021 10:35

Aw, your baby is so cute 😃

It does look like an allergic reaction.

Oh no I'd guess it's the dogs, I'm like that with cat hair, if I stroke a cat and touch my eyes they get very sore and itchy. I'd keep him away from the dogs as much as possible and don't let him touch them. If he does wash hands and if his eyes get itchy from touching them then wipe his eyes over. I'd gate the dogs off so they can only access certain rooms and definitely not his room the room he spends most time in. See if it makes a difference.
Piriton is only for over 1's unfortunately or I'd recommend trying that. You might have to rehome your dogs OP if separating them isn't possible/isn't enough :-(
