to be slightly miffed that on my sons preschool christmas party, the children were given more chocolate than mine would get in a week!

A chocolate bar and a christmas cracker was placed on their plate as they sat down after performing the nativity play. Not just a small chocolate sweet, but a maaahooosive caramelo! All the parents had brought in food, carrot sticks, cheese and pinapple, sandwiches, sausage rolls, but by the time this food was passed around (and rejected) the kids (2 1/2 - 4 year olds) busy chewing through that big chocolate bar. Then the cadbury minirolls came out.

So, time to visit santa before going, and another HUGE chocolate coin.

It was a nice thought, and a good party, but could they not wait with the chocolates till all the food had been passed around? All the kids were too busy stuffing themselves to eat proper food.

He is still "high". Has not had a nap, and has had nothing proper to eat since breakfast.

grrr

But it is only a one time thing, I wouldn't be bothered tbh. Would have been a good idea to bring it out later though.

QuintessentialShadowOfYuleTide · 07/12/2007 14:13

Oh, and now I am going to be flamed by the "dont criticise the organisers, do something yourself if you want to make a difference, and dont complain" brigade.

I must say, we had ALL made food. Everybody brought food. This food is now in the bin.

And it was in paid nursery hours time, anyway, not after nursery.

YANBU, I have no problem with huge quantities of chocolate at parties, but it should be tucked away until after the "proper" food has been eaten.

Ah well. Salad for tea, is it?

CarmenerryChristmas · 07/12/2007 14:14

YANBU however it won't kill him, it is just once a year and I for one have resigned myself to dd being in a state of sugar induced hysteria for the rest of the month. It is time for parenting on rollerskates to keep up with them

QuintessentialShadowOfYuleTide · 07/12/2007 14:14

It is probably only because I was dependent on a routine day, as I am taking them to The Barbican to a Panto after school..... So I am panicking...

you should dish out more chocolate. My chocolate rationing is very lax by mnet standards but he spent the last party he went to rejecting choc cake (which was 'yucky' apparently) in favour of ham sandwiches.

It's xmas, once a year, let the kid enjoy his chocolate.

yurt1 · 07/12/2007 14:14

he being 2 year old ds3.

QuintessentialShadowOfYuleTide · 07/12/2007 14:15

hohum, pizza for tea.... (groan) Have to rush home after school, eat and drive into the Barbican..... I am not going to survive...

The occasional choclate glutney fest is one of the pleasures of childhood. Its ok every once and while

QuintessentialShadowOfYuleTide · 07/12/2007 14:17

yes! It for sure brightened up the kids! The face of the parents were diametrically opposites of the faces of the kids!

I might have been of a different opinon had I partaken in the wine and sparkly .... But I dont drink around 10-11 am usually!
I am too strict, obviously!

bet you ds thought all his christmasas had come at once, - he will survive i am sure

might have been better after food though i agree- but thats boring????

CarmenerryChristmas · 07/12/2007 14:19

I went to see that sex through the ages exhibition at the Barbican last week. Most of it was very interesting, some beautiful and some totally foul ~(Maplethorpe anyone?). Anyway, you should check it out, but not with the kids.

QuintessentialShadowOfYuleTide · 07/12/2007 14:20

Boring? Yes, well, maybe....
I did not find it boring to be cutting a half kilo cheddar into cubes and put on coctail sticks with fresh pineapple (as the preschool told me to do), 6 am this morning, I found it utterly outrageous, especially in hindsight, since it was never eaten.

I got a book illustrating the art of Mapplethorpe for my wedding gift (by a now very obscure friend) and also something with Cicciolina....

Keen to check out Sex through the ages, but ugh not Mappelthorpe!

QuintessentialShadowOfYuleTide · 07/12/2007 14:24

I cant spell Maplethorpe, sorry

YANBU.

Biiig, no HUUUUGE mistake to put any chocolate out before the real food.

Hope they realise this next year and keep chocolate /sweets back to be given out as take home goodies.

seb1 · 07/12/2007 14:26

Just imagine how you would feel at the office party if you got water (no booze) and low cal salads (no high fat calorie laiden choices) think how sad you would be

DoesntChristmasDragOn · 07/12/2007 14:28

Nothing wrong with the quantity but it should have waited til after the "proper" food

QuintessentialShadowOfYuleTide · 07/12/2007 14:28

Lol Seb..... But I bet my husband would prefer getting me home after that salad and water party...

OP posts:
QuintessentialShadowOfYuleTide · 07/12/2007 14:30

oh sorry, did I say sausage rolls? M&S Coctail sausages. You know, without the pastry. Tiny, brown, shrivveled up little things....

yurt1 · 07/12/2007 14:30

god parties must be fun at your houses.

seb1 · 07/12/2007 14:30

and before you know where you are you'll be worrying about how many alchopops they have drunk. See it is only once a year and it could (and possibly will) get worse as they get older .

juuule · 07/12/2007 14:31

It wouldn't bother me. It's a one-off. It's a christmas party. Nope - wouldn't have bothered me at all. Hope they all had a great time.

seb1 · 07/12/2007 14:32

and you'll be screamming bring back the fruit shoots

QuintessentialShadowOfYuleTide · 07/12/2007 14:32

yurt, the last party I went to was a hoot, I can party!

Which is why my husband would probably prefer me to go to a salad and water fest, lol
