Fuel how long will it last?

What's everyone's guesses on how long this will last my area seems to be fine now but daily mail is painting a terrible picture makes me feel very uneasy ... what's everyone's thoughts when it will ease?

@MagnoliaBeige my point poorly made clearly is that the local media are still running this as a major story despite the fact it's not remotely a local problem.

Nobody locally has reason to run out of fuel, but the media are still happy to whip up the drama. It's not remotely helpful.

I'm still surprised that the SE is having such huge problems though. I knew it was happening, we were in Staines on Froday and witnessed the huge queues, doesn't reduce my surprise that it's still a problem there though. I'm allowed to express surprise or is that now worthy of derision too?

idiotfacelicker · 03/10/2021 16:50

I think it's fine to be surprised. It's when the surprise descends into "why are you all panicking so much" and "why aren't you all using public transport" and "is it because you all have multiple oversized range Rovers" when it starts looking less like innocent surprise and more like a chance for a snark.

Not saying you did that, but it's happened on multiple fuel threads so I think those of us genuinely concerned and desperate are running low on patience.

Wazzzzzzzup · 03/10/2021 16:51

It's a goldmine for jokes tho.
Not just in UK. There are crapload in my native language too.

(We have diesel so we did laugh at these while nervously looking around for a while)

It's the new normal so it will be over... never?

pinkstripeycat · 03/10/2021 16:59

I’m in the midlands and we’ve been fully stocked since yesterday morning. No more queues and no empty or closed gas stations

Whitewolf2 · 03/10/2021 17:10

It’s not just the South East, still plenty of shut petrol stations in the East too.

londonrach · 03/10/2021 17:13

No problem here..tbh it seems to just he London and south east that's having a problem..don't read the daily mail

ParadiseLaundry · 03/10/2021 17:17

We seem to be back to normal here in the NE. We passed 3 stations today and they were normal, one was even quiet. Surely it can't be much longer for the rest of the UK.

ElfDragon · 03/10/2021 17:18

It’s still horrendous here (SE).

3 local fuel stations all completely dry. 2 further afield (within 5 miles) also dry. 2 motorway services stations completely out most of the time.

I drive a lot of miles each week, by necessity. I have to fill up every 2 days (otherwise I’d be stuffed if I couldn’t find any on the third day), and it has taken about 2 hours each time to find and queue for fuel.

Utter nightmare

@Comedycook yes, I think it matters that people are willing to fund a media outlet that is happy to spout all kinds of bigotry.

Well that's a whole other thread isn't it?

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 03/10/2021 19:23

Still problems here. Crazy queues. No different to last week really..hopefully end of this week less so.

MiddleClassProblem · 03/10/2021 19:25

@Comedycooknot really. Someone buys or clicks on the site, it finds it, no matter the story.

5 in London yesterday had the pumps roped off, the one with fuel on the A406 was causing a huge traffic jam with Police at the station assisting.

Skysblue · 03/10/2021 20:04

@Givenupentirely that’s lovely that your area is ok for fuel. How nice for you. My town (SE) has had most pumps either closed or designated for emergency vehicles only, since this began. Occasionally a non-emergency pump opens but it runs dry within an hour. Community nurses being turned away from pumps because they’re not ‘emergency’. Unluckily my tank was low when this began. I can’t leave my rural village, I can’t drive my son home from school when it’s pouring, I can’t get to the hairdresser or the supermarket (I love you Ocado!!) I’m effectively locked down again. I’m tired of people blaming the media / consumers when it’s clear that the government are complete incompetents who failed to plan for this obvious result of their policy. (Shame that the opposition are also incompetents.)

HairyScaryMonster · 03/10/2021 20:47

It's mixed here in beds/cambs. Towns near me are empty, queuing then empty again. Got fuel off an A road with only 10 mins of queueing.

tiddlysquat · 03/10/2021 22:19

It must be an absolute nightmare if you drive a lot for work.
I filled up on that first Friday it went mad as I was on the red. Now I've just tipped below half and I'm getting twitchy as I drive to walk the dog !
What hell people must be going through and the govt is being utterly useless

Lucinda7 · 03/10/2021 22:29

I am in Worcestershire and I filled up today and it will last for 3 weeks and a bit. I went to an overpriced garage on a dual carriageway. I wouldn't normally use that garage but felt desperate. No queues. My pump had both types of unleaded but no diesel. The garage on the other carriageway was closed.

ichundich · 03/10/2021 22:46

@nunamenuyear

West kent - army were delivering fuel yesterday but most petrol stations still don't have any, unlike in the north. I think it's all politics, the government is desperate to keep the "red wall" votes (they won't but that's why the Tory conference is happening in Manchester) and take Tory support in the south east completely for granted. I hope they get the come uppance they deserve. If Boris thought Brexit was such a great idea he could at least have planned for it so we wouldn't now be in the mess we are.
I think this is spot on. It's no coincidence that there is now plenty of fuel in the north, which has been more pro-Brexit, and recently more pro-Tory. Never believed the lack of fuel was caused by people panic buying either, and when you look at the foreign press, they all think Brexit is entirely to blame, rather than people filling up 'who don't need it'.
