Are people still using it and getting pinged?

OP posts:
Cabbagepie · 03/10/2021 00:03

Still using it, never been pinged.

Kummerspeck · 03/10/2021 00:06

@PurpleDaisies

Yes in that it’s still active on my phone. I haven’t been pinged in months and months.
Still active on mine too and never been pinged.
NanFlanders · 03/10/2021 00:15

Yes. Apparently it has saved one life for every hundred downloads.

GreenWheat · 03/10/2021 00:19

I never downloaded it in the first place, and always avoided places where you had to leave details. Nobody seems to ask any more though.

Has it? How was the 1/100 statistic measured?
OP posts:
TwoMuchTwoYoung · 03/10/2021 21:18

Downloaded for about a week then deleted it.

Libertaire · 03/10/2021 21:20

No. I binned it two weeks after my second jab.

Noogar · 03/10/2021 21:21

Does it still work?

rattlemehearties · 03/10/2021 21:22

I deleted it when the rules changed in August. I used to find it reassuring that I might be pinged but since then I've just found it a stressful idea that I might be told to isolate mistakenly

myusernamewastakenbyme · 03/10/2021 21:23

Nope never downloaded it and gave a false phone number if i had to check in anywhere.

tttigress · 03/10/2021 21:23

No

PurpleDaisies · 03/10/2021 21:25

@Noogar

Does it still work?
Yes, they’ve just changed the time frame that means you get pinged. Lots fewer people get pinged now.

If you’re double jabbed, I don’t really see a downside in having it. You don’t have to isolate but you know to be a bit more careful because you had a positive contact.

Topseyt · 03/10/2021 21:33

I deleted the shitty thing during the pingdemic when it was apparently pinging all and sundry willy nilly.

I never got pinged. Very likely because I don't ever keep Bluetooth turned on on my phone. It drains the battery far too fast.

Noogar · 03/10/2021 21:35

PurpleDaisies ah cool thanks. I've been using it as I use public transport but wasn't sure if it still pings. Like you say there's no downside for the jabbed but gives you a bit of a warning.

SunShinesBrightly · 03/10/2021 21:40

I didn’t know you needed Bluetooth on. It’s always off on my phone so I guess even if I had had the App it would be useless.

OP posts:
Noogar · 03/10/2021 21:44

@SunShinesBrightly yeah needs the Bluetooth and location on too i think

Cheeseplantboots · 03/10/2021 21:58

No. I’ve never downloaded it and never will.

SunShinesBrightly · 03/10/2021 22:05

I didn’t even think about location (I never have that switched on either) & Bluetooth .

What a waste of time & money...

@SunShinesBrightly - underlying data on impact here: www.turing.ac.uk/blog/demonstrating-impact-nhs-covid-19-app

OnTheBoardwalk · 03/10/2021 22:24

Was randomly pinged after going nowhere for a week (think cos neighbour was positive) but it was after the new rule of not havng to self isolate if double jabbed and had test

Annoyed me cos of the ping so I deleted the app and all its data. After a day or so got over being annoyed i download the app again

The app was still showing my 'isolate for 10 days' message. How was it still holding this personal info after I’d downloaded the app

NanFlanders · 03/10/2021 22:30

@OnTheBoardwalk - it's won't be your personal data (NHS/government don't know you have been pinged) - It will just be connected to the anonymous IP address of your phone.

JackieWeaverHandforthCouncil · 03/10/2021 22:49

Nope. Never downloaded it. Suspected it was a cover for Cummings and his geeks and freaks to use emergency Covid laws to steal personal data.

OnTheBoardwalk · 03/10/2021 23:04

NanFlanders I get that it’s linked to my phone not me but if I’ve deleted the app and all it’s data (standard) then why did it remember my previous ping?

You delete an app all the data should be deleted
