Does anyone else just hate that time of the month?! Any top tips on what makes you feel better?!

OP posts:
Sn0tnose · 02/10/2021 21:04

Naproxen and a warm bath (obviously a shower straight afterwards).

10Minutestobedtime · 02/10/2021 21:07

I take mefanemic acid and tranexamic acid these help a bit but I am still extremely heavy and the pain can be debilitating. Every few months I get a period which is hell on earth

Been to the Drs and had scans which show I have adenomyosis, Dr said I need the coil but I just can't get past the idea of it heard so many horror stories. I'm going to have to do something though as this month I vomited due to the cramping I had. Things that help are the stick on heat pads, wheat bags and curling up away from the work. Gentle walks help but when it's really bad I can straighten up.

Cocodamol, nice food, hot baths, my DH.

Flavabobble · 02/10/2021 21:15

Not a problem I have now, but I always found a bout of really heavy intense exercise just before it started really alleviated the symptoms. If I timed it right, didn’t get any pain.

2 paracetamol + tablets (I.e. with caffeine to speed it up).

Hot water bottle.

Love Luna period pants.

A cup of tea with chocolate or chocolate biscuits (although not having chocolate right now)

EgonSpengler2020 · 02/10/2021 21:37

@Blackkoala

Ibuprofen, mefanamic acid and a very hot hot water bottle.
Ibuprofen and mefanamic acid are both non steroidal anti inflammatories therefore you shouldn't be taking them both together.
EgonSpengler2020 · 02/10/2021 21:38

Mefanamic acid, paracetamol and buscopan.

pelosi · 02/10/2021 21:39

What on Earth is Mefanwy acid.

MilduraS · 02/10/2021 21:42

@EgonSpengler2020

Mefanamic acid, paracetamol and buscopan.
Ooh I forgot buscopan! In France they sell the same drug marketed for period pain. I wonder why they can't here.
BananaRama990 · 02/10/2021 21:43

Cuddling up in bed with cosy PJ's and a nice blanket etc.
I get so emotional around my period that I just need some comfort.

I'm in a similar position, my endometriosis is getting worse and the last couple of months I've been in pain more days than without. I know if I go to the doctor's they'll push for me to have a IUD, but I've had mental health side effects both times I've been on oral contraceptives in the past so I'm really not keen on having the IUD but also not sure how to cope with the worsening pain.
Lightningrain · 02/10/2021 21:43

Nurofen, wheat bag/hot bath and sometimes I try to do some light exercise (a walk or yoga).

EezyOozy · 02/10/2021 21:44

Buscopan, extra strength ibuprofen, co-codamol, chocolate, being left alone to lie down*

*this bit never happens.

EezyOozy · 02/10/2021 21:44

Oh and wind-eze. Game changer for me.

Contraceptive pill has sorted a lot of my issues out

Happenchance · 02/10/2021 21:46

Not using tampons (if possible). I find that they make my cramps worse and make my period last longer, by stemming the blood flow.

turkishteeth · 02/10/2021 21:52

Getting my Vitamin D3 levels to an optimal level (took about three months of daily supplements) completely eradicated the debilitating period pain I had suffered from menarche to age 35.

All these posts about multiple hot water bottles and double whammy painkillers have reminded me how dreadful my periods once were. I’d genuinely forgotten.

NotMeekNotObedient · 02/10/2021 21:59

Go to your GP OP if you're having a lot of pain -Mefanamic acid, paracetamol & buscopan (for nausea). Really helped me. I dont suffer so badly these days but when I was younger these were a game changer.

Now a heat patch, some paracetamol & chocolate, sort me out on a bad day. A bit of yoga cat cows and child's pose help.

I do have the copper non-hormonal coil but I dont attribute the improvement to that. I love the coil, I get lots of side effects from hormonal contraception.

If the GP fobs you off get a second opinion - a bit hit and miss with 'womens troubles' I find, especially if the GP is male Angry
