Holiday decision

I realise we are in a fortunate position.

We usually do fairly low key inexpensive holidays - think Euro camp style holidays where we have never spent more than £2k and they were great holidays. Only ever gone extravagant on honeymoon 8 years ago. It has been cheap and cheerful ever since.

I have just had a pay rise and have a little cash and I am desperate for a decent holiday. Haven't been abroad since summer 2019. Looking at some winter sun and anything semi decent for 2adults, 2 kids is around £4k minimum. I am struggling to part with the cash when the reviews are mixed online and in the case of Tenerife or Cape Verde tbe wind and possible sand could ruin the whole holiday.

Does any one have any amazing suggestions? Or positive stories to nudge me over the line to book?

Then I thought. If I am on holiday in Tenerife and tbe weather is mixed. Will I regret spending 4K when I could have spent a few £££ more and gone to the Maldives!

Melia Tortuga in Sal, Cape Verde.
Yes it’s windy sometimes and there’s not much in the way of culture on the island but we did do a couple of trips and had an amazing time.
Go 5 star if you can, I think we paid about £4K for AI

We always book independently too and have been on some great holidays. Not as expensive as yours either! Namibia is fantastic for families, there is so much to do!!

@Indoctro all the activities are right up our street and might do kids club one or two days. Husband getting excited about the water park!

We hired a car and travelled around, but the place of fun was Swakopmund. There are lots of activities such as sand boarding, dune driving, hiking in Soussesvlei (huge dunes) then obviously a lot of time spent in etosha national park. There are disused gold mines and ghost towns you can visit and we camped in the Namib desert. Also visit the seal colony - I don't remember if there are beaches though for sunbathing/swimming. There are also tribes to visit, ancient cave/rock paintings/ moonscape landscapes, skeleton coast. We couldn't afford to do the skeleton coast but I will next time we go back! We loved it. It was once a German colony so is super clean and efficient! Also some pine trees which was really weird! Smile

I used to do a bit of contracting work over I the Middle East, Abu Dhabi is the same sort of shitehole as Dubai so its weird you're completely opposed to one but not the other. I wouldn't spend a single penny of my money in any of those countries, contributing to slavery. No ta!

I'd probably have waited a little while incase restrictions come in again over the winter periods. And I'd be looking at the Caribbean in February.

I'm with you @BobMortimersPetOwl
I'm determined only to holiday in proper democracies from now on.

If I ever have enough money spare (2k would do it) I wanna take my kids to Portugal to a tiny fishing village on the coast that no one knows about. I don’t think I will ever have that much money spare though…
