To not understand why the fuel situation is so bad in the SE when they have better public transport than the rest of the country and shorter distances

Where we live public transport is woefully bad, non existent in many places and expensive.Bigger county too than most SE counties. Confused

Where I live outside Greater London the buses are ridiculously expensive and not that good. Eg. £12 return to a shopping centre 2 hourly.

Population density. It really is huge in London - some of the highest population densities in the world. I read somewhere that it actually meets the technical description of a desert, in terms of water availability per capita, for exactly the same reason. Jobs or no jobs, not a place I’ve ever wanted to live (or could afford to, fortunately! Smile)

Another saying how bad public transport is. If I don’t drive, I can either spend over an hour (walking + train + dangerous walk) or I can walk the five miles to and from work. I’d have to leave at 5am to get to work.

I live rural home counties and 4 miles from a railway station. Walkable - just.

The town 12 miles away that I work in also has a railway station. Just not on the same line.

I would have to walk 4 miles, take an hour's train journey into London, walk to the other terminus, wait for a train, spend another hour on another train back out of London, and at the end, walk the 3 miles or so from the station to where I work. And the same in reverse on the way home.

Or I could drive 12 miles each way.

I've just done a route finder for getting to my office base via public transport. The 25 minute car journey would take almost three hours Grin
