Am I being picky or is this unhealthy?

Am I being picky here? DD went for a trial at nursery yesterday and after dinner she had cake and custard. Today she had a biscuit as part of a snack, a chocolate mouse after lunch and potato waffles as part of tea. It seems quite processed and high in sugar? She also had cheese and bacon pasta yesterday, which sounds quite high in salt. Is this normal nursery food or is this high in sugar and salt

Yes it does seem a little high in sugar/processed foods etc but as she is only there 1 day a week I would leave it and let her enjoy it.

I agree it doesn’t sound like the healthiest menu, I wouldn’t particularly like the fact they are having sandwiches with crisps or the daily puddings, across the week it seems like too many treat foods, but because your DD is only actually attending for one day a week I probably wouldn’t worry about it. If your diet is healthy at home a pudding a week isn’t going to do much harm.

It's normal but I agree it's odd. I was once told I was underfeeding my children when they were toddlers because they should have a pudding after lunch and dinner. 100% no bullshit. I was hopping. No wonder people are overweight hey

OP I'm really happy to see a post like this because shut eating habits are becoming normalise and it's terrifying.

You are completely right, this food is unacceptable to be given to your child On a. Regular basis.

I would look at a different nursery or ask what alternatives they can provide.

Taking my own diet - I would never eat that so why should a child?

You're completely right stick to your guns OP

The nursery menu is terrible

postingfortraffichere · 02/10/2021 09:12

By terrible I mean terribly unhealthy - these nurseries should be held accountable for poor nutrition in kids if this is what they are being taught such early stages

Wow, then we wonder why there's an obesity epidemic,

This thread has shocked me! I don't have kids - and really didn't know this is what they get fed while in nursery care, sad and shocking

Wasn’t too exercised without detail of the ingredients of the main dishes, if they were made in house or processed rubbish.

Crisps have no place on a nursery menu, though. Chips appeared once a week when ours were small, on a Friday with fish (with the option of baked potatoes). Our youngest is 18 now and I’m surprised to still see a menu like that in a nursery, or a indeed school, thought we all knew better now.

My private daycare the menu was great. Loads hidden veg, homeschooled meals. Even cake had beetroot or carrot hidden in it
